Rick Ross - You The Boss
Artist: Rick Ross
Featuring: Nicki Minaj
Producer: K.E. On The Track
Album: God Forgives, I Don't
Label: Maybach Music/Def Jam
It’s good to be the Bawse! One half of Rick Ross’ newly-released dual single,You the Boss finds K.E. On the Track serving up a radio-ready synth backdrop as Ricky Rozay engages in a little flirtatious back-and-forth with Young Money hitmaker Nicki Minaj. Like what you’re hearing? Watch for the other half of Ross’ dual single, the Just Blaze-produced I Love My B*tches, to go live this evening as a Spotlight Feature, and keep it locked for all the latest on God Forgives, I Don’t, currently scheduled for release in December.

Usual Rozay...Kinda reminds me of Aston Martin and instead of Drizzy he got Nicki.

Just doesn't cut it. Ross was average, Nicki was annoying and the beat was underwhelming! Next...

Meh. Why does Nicki Minaj have to ruin everything? Even though it was already pretty bad.

its alright...i guess. the beat is nice, but Ross and Nicki not really a great mix, for future reference. 2.5 out of 5

When the scope of the song is to achieve maximum radio-plays, and the synth-led production bears a similarity to Los Da Mystero soundscapes, dats definitely a step in the right direction! Not only that, Rozay sure knows who to assemble around him to bring out the strengths in that sound.
With Nicki Minaj on board, there’s not much doubt that it’s going to end up hitting the charts, but I don't think there's a lot of staying power here. The problem is, with such stale lyrics, the derivative and recycled The-Dream-esque production seem like minor issues in comparison, but such characteristics only further serve to make this a weak single offering by all accounts. The disappointment is compounded by the fact that Ross and Nicki have demonstrated that they each possess genuinely strong presence on mic. Though both does their thing and the song never breaks away from trendiness, it's NOt Rick Ross catchiest single to date by a mile. In the end there's nothing grating to the ears on the song. It's pleasant but uninspired. I'll file this under inoffensive but fogettable 'disappearing singles' folder. |

Not much love up in here... I thought the track was chilled.
If ur lookin for a fight or sumthin dont play this song to get u fired up. Production wise and as a whole (the vocals, beat, hook what have you), the track has a very seductive element to it.. This will be playin in my whip outside the club, so any single ladies out there wanting a ride to heaven... listen owt ;) |
