On Trilla, Rick Ross took inspiration from the best-selling album of all time, and it seems that the Boss may be modeling the follow-up after his former boss Jay-Z‘s debut album, Reasonable Doubt. In addition the similar suits they sport on their respective LP covers, most Booth-heads (and many hip-hop fans across the world) will immediately recognize similarities between Doubt lead single Dead Presidents and this newly-released cut off Deeper. On Usual Suspects, Ross continues Hova’s tradition of big-money talk, even bringing the rapper sampled on its hook (Nas) in for a memorable second verse. Frequent SoFlo hookwriter Kevin Cossom (whose exclusive interview is now live on the Booth) adds to the mood, and The Inkredibles renovate Ski‘s original beat, but add a modern Southern touch. Since Usual Suspects should have no problem picking up strong reviews (and high chart status) from the Booth, we can’t help but wonder if Deeper Than Rap will be the first 5-spin “Classic” album in DJBooth.net history. We’ll find out soon after it drops on April 21.

 This is a pretty tight track. I listenend to the interview and started wonderin about Cossom's work because I had never heard him sing. He was very good on here, I was impressed. Ross was pretty good and Nas was dope as always. The production was very solid as well.

Damn never been a fan of Ross but Im gonna start checking out his music because of this. This track is executed to perfection. The hook sounds hot and Rick Ross's laid back flow is dope. Nas brings a hot verse this shit is fire!

Absolutely amazing, can't find anything wrong wit the track: besides the tired lyrical material (from Ross)
It is amazing to me that Ricky might actually have a classic on his hands, something I would have never have thought possible from him. Every track that's brought to us here on DJ booth is smooth and perfectly formated to fit Ricky's vocals. His voice just works on these tracks, whereas his vocals and flow cadence just anoyed me on other tracks. Nas's verse is straight Nas and this track is fire. Nice catchy, but street-worthy hook: lets hear some more of this! |

Man, Ricky Ross. If this is indeed the follow-up single to Magnificent I don't see how a single to follow this can even come close to matching up.
Ultimate Hip Hop: "But my crude sense of logic Did elude to my empty wallet" The word play in this line was sick. This dude may have the most vicious word play I've ever seen or heard. I usually don't throw out 5 stars myself but this is the second joint I have heard tonight on here that gets 5 from me. |

I am a huge 50-Cent fan, but Rick Ross may just have a VERY GOOD, if not GREAT album on his hands when it is all said and done. Since this beef started, Ross has been on his grind (well, before that too), and every song since has sounded even better. Rick Ross RIPPED This from the start and just continues with that Miami Flow!!! Still da boss! The chorus is hot, the beat is even better, and NAS GOES NUTS! This is a CLA$$IC!!!

I had the pleasure of listening to this ENTIRE ALBUM at his listening session in Chicago. Not only is it his best offering, but some of the best collection of beats in recent memory.

I have a feeling Ross has found his place with this album. Ross has been delivering quality music, and it'd be an honest shame if 50's bull were to put a halt to things; which hasn't happened! Come on Fif, you can't touch with a track like this. I thought Nas and Kanye showing on his album might be the best thing for him regarding the beef and all the hatred.
From what I've heard (specifically this, "On Top of the World", the audience rip, instrumental and Lil Wayne only ["fresher than Will Smith and Uncle Phil too"] leaks of "Maybach Music Pt. 2" and "Magnificent"), this may be Ross' best album yet, because it's Ross finding and knowing what he shines at. "Deeper Than Rap" might be THE Ross album. Gotta love Nas on here, damn... |

I dunno if you can blame 50 for what might happen with the Deeper Then Rap album (though he will claim it if it flunks badly). I still havnt heard a track from Ross that could be moderately successful within the general population & this is no exception.
The song is pretty good, Nas and Ross came hard & I liked the hook from Kevin Cossom especially. The beat from Inkredibles is pretty good though I dunno if this can be the single to launch the album. |

Evoking the spirit of a hungry Jay-Z on a gritty gangster track and still making it their own. Excellent job by the Inkredibles.. - this coupled with Mafia Music are the two most undeniable songs on the Album so far.

I keep sayin' it... and i'm gonna say it again; the way Ricky raps and flows keeps me interested in his tracks. Cossom is one hell of a singer. Nas killed it. This is the complete track which fills in all the criteria to make it a classic.

Lost a little respect for ross with all the 50 cent beef stuff. From what I've heard so far, this albums looking good, Idk bout a classic, but I'm definitely expecting a banger. My favorite song of his that I recently heard was his jumpin out teh window (originally done by ron browz) prob wont be on the album though. This song is banging but beats like this are getting repeptive with ross. The jumpin out the window beat is banging.

my dude KC and my dawgs The Inkredibles did their thing on this track. I'm glad they are finally getting more placements and getting out there. The track is dope im excited for this album. I think it will be better than Trilla and I was hooked on that album for a while. Nas went hard on this - he never fails really. This is a banger/classic im not sure which.. ill give it a 5 just cuz i usually dont even think about giving a 5 star rating. But this actually made me want to.

I still don't know about classic, but this is a straight up BANGER! I like Ross and Nas, and the hook was good. I actually have high expectations for "Deeper than Rap" from the songs that I've heard. Maybe Ross' career isn't over after all!

But I do agree with everybody's comments. Ross knows how to put together dem laid-back jams-plus he's on Def Jam, so he got one helluva verse by Nas for a pretty good discount! I've always been an "all-about-the-music-guy"...to me, 50 Cent and G-Unit are no longer relevant and have fallen off. Ross is just getting started! |

I honestly don't see what's so special about this track. Ross brings the same tired flow and sub-par lyrics as he's brought for the past few years. The only thing that holds this song up is a great Nas verse, good (but not great) production and a decent hook. I can't give this higher than a 3 star.

Lol @ being mad for Rick for having a fake persona in rap. Rappers lie all the damn time like Big Bank Hank from the Sugar Hill Gang spitting Grandmaster Caz's lines on "Rapper's Delight" like it was his lines. How could anybody believe Rick's claims when he was weak rapper on Trina's song.
Anyway the song is ok. The beat sounds like a "Dead Presidents" knock off. Nas comes correct, Cossom was nice on the hook and Ross was Ross. Its rotation worthy almost a banger. |

Wow. It's amazing. This track is best of new Ross bangers yet (and yes, in my opinion, they have all been bangers)...The production on this is soooo smooth, so perfect, give it up for the inkredibles - credit where credit is due, truth. If the album is all like this and the other leaked singles, while maybe not quite a classic, we'll see it top 5's of the year no doubt. I'm excited.
Ross totally holds his own in his own way and you have to agree that much like the Game, he's constantly improving. He's definitely come a long way since his appearances on Trick Daddy's Thug Holiday album a few years back. Nas? he just flat out scud missiles this track...he's just that good. props to ultimate for posting the lyrics, they're amazing to read but when Nas's spits'em it's hip hop heaven. @FredRico, totally agree with you. 50 hasn't destroyed anything...can you name anyone you know who's not going to cop Ross's album just cause 50 is on the net making cartoons? Hell no! Most of these cats hating on Ross will probably D/L the deeper than rap album anyway 'cause they secretly can't deny the quality. Funny thing is that same cats will probably also be D/L Before I self destruct too!!! While both tracklists for their albums look impressive, 50 isn't putting too much out these days (although expect to see much more of him and the three headed monster in Q3 & 4)...while Ross is getting his album about and releasing heat all the time. It's gonna be a good year for hip hop....Banger!! |

One more note: Rick Ross obviously did his homework when it comes to how to handle beef. Remember the Ja Rule-50 Cent beef back in the day? Ja frequently questioned 50's G and said he has no street cred and all that. 50 just stayed away from that and made hotter music with lyrical whirlwinds. We all know who won that.
Now it's 50 vs. Ross-50's using Ja's old tactics, while Ross is using 50's old ones. Personally, I think history will repeat itself as far as the strategies. |
