What, you thought that we weren’t going to hear from the Re-Up Gang while the Clipse promote their new album Till the Casket Drops? Think again, because The Raw is Back (Andrew Kelley Remix). Producer Andrew Kelley, making his first appearance on DJBooth today with a supremely raw leak from his new Cracksploitation mixtape, has brilliantly decided to remix some of Re-Up’s best work by combining their signature cocaine-centric flow with classic boom-bap beats, a mix that, as Raw is Back proves, can be a potentially deadly combination. Here Kelley has infused the track with a reggae-vibe, layering the track with some stuttering guitar and descending violin strings, plus recruited Styles P to bless the remix with a particularly fearsome verse (Styles has really been killing it lately). Still, since it’s a remix I have to ask: Is Re-Up’s sound better or worse off after Kelley’s touch? 2DopeBoyz Presents: Cracksploitation V.2: The ReMixtape, hosted by the Clipse, is due out January 28. Plan accordingly.

This is why you cannot miss a mixtape cut that involves the Clipse. Right?

Regular readers know that I'm a bit of a Clipse/Re-Up purist, so I was torn on this one. On one hand I like the up-tempo style, for some reason reminds me of a movie soundtrack, but I always miss the dirt. What can I say, I just like it a little grimier.

oh yea. Clipse gets it.
I'll buy anything with Clipse on it. But really bummed about "Til The Casket Drops."
They SHOULD have stayed exclusive to The Neptunes. And what was up with the album art??? No photos. Just a cheap drawing and the song list.
It was like "We are in a recession, so we are not buying any new cars, bling or clothes... or even paying for a photo shoot."
I am a Clipse fan til the casket drops (wait... did I just say that?) but other than Door Man, All Eyes On Me, and Popular Demand, that album is poor.

Whoa! the beat is dramatic as hell, loaded with cinematic strings and busy drums. Lyrically everyone just stomps on it. A job well done! 3.5

This is dope, and that superfly-reggae beat gives it an old school street vibe.
