REKS - I Too, America
Artist: REKS
Producer: Statik Selektah
Album: Rhythmatic Eternal King of Suspense
Label: Gracie Productions
No matter where you go or who you talk to, it seems like everyone’s got something to say about the good ol’ United States of America; some see it as a land of opportunity and innovation, some as a land of contradictions and internal strife, and a few even view it as a devil sent to oppress and dominate the rest of the globe. On I Too, America, the first leaked single off of his forthcoming fifth LP, Boston-area native REKS adds his voice to the eternal debate. The underground mainstay expresses optimism about our progress toward racial equality while raising serious questions about our country’s commitment to social justice, but balances the political tone with nostalgic allusions to jazz songsmiths of yesteryear. Statik Selektah accents the track’s weighty subject matter with a fittingly pensive blend of looming synth pads and buried horn samples. Even if you don’t share the emcee’s political leanings, this track should serve as a tantalizing appetizer for his forthcoming Rhythmic Eternal King Of Suspense LP (which has yet to receive a solid release date).

REKS and Statik Selektah make beautiful music. This man was meant to spit over this production. Rarely discussed topics, provided to listeners in a unique manner. Always appreciated as a listener.

These two always accent eachother perfectly and make great collaborations. REKS' wordplay is sick, and his social consciousness needs to be heard.

Production is smooth and REKS is pretty good on the flow. Not an everyday song but great message on here.

Niiiice track!!! His flow is sick over this production!!! Speaking of that production, Statik Selektah did beautiful on it. It's chill, but it doesn't cross the oh-so-thin line of boring. I wish the track was a little longer, but other than that, nicely done.

Basically feelin' the 'full package' of this amazing production co-signing with the well coordinated REKS at full flow. Not surprised that it's Statik Selektah production you can actually tell instantly; it is his forte.
