Remember that feeling you got after dropping 17 hard-earned dollars on your favorite rapper’s new album, and after one listen, you realized it was awful? In addition to being broke, you became angry, frustrated and confused. However, the one feeling that trumped the rest was that of pure disappointment. Thus, in an effort to make sure none of his listeners feel the same way about his music, rapper REKS has promised that “disappointment is not an option” for his upcoming album, Grey Hairs. On the first single from the LP, REKS hooks up with producer Static Selektah for the powerful throwback track, How Can It Be? A great question; listen for the answer.
(actual rating:4*)Nice track here! Reks goes hard with a flow that reminds me of Papoose or Termanology… But he’s genuine enough, has good lyrics and sounds very solid! Beat is great, I love the fresh old school feel Statik Selektah’s bringing to the game. (GET “SPELL MY NAME RIGHT: THE ALBUM”, by Statik Selektah)
(Just a lil extra sumthin): Music is alwayz changing and ppl move with the flo but sumtimes U get caught up in all the new tracks, da new way of delivering a message & the new style of music brought to the table (T-Pain, Rihanna, Soulja Boi, The Dream, Sean Kingston etc.) but its nice to take it back you know?! Real nice to hear sum good old skool music man so thankU xxx
I rarely comment on others feedback, but '7574Lyfe' did you actually listen to this song? And if you did, think you could provide something more than 'wack'? REKS is definitely a breathe of fresh air, similar to Termanology. Love the production from Static Selektah, very enjoyable.
I really like the use of the old school beat with an old-time sample sped up and put on top of it. It is done very well. Production is super tight. Usually people will put an old-time sample on a really new sound; but this sound has an old school-real-hip-hop feel to it. REKS sounds real good on here. STrong outing from him; so hopefully we won't be disappointed in his album!
Reks & I are on same page about disappointing albums. I just hope he doesn't put too much pressure on himself. This track sounds good and I'm really feelin' his energy. You can tell Hip-Hop is his passion.
those 2 people who rated this 1 star?? what the? if u only rate this only one star im starting to wonder what sort of music you guys like?? Li emost people said, has a killa ol school beat, reminds me of Dj premier or krs-one style, good to hear music thats not so try-hard gangsta about guns and bling! well done!
reks has shared the stage with artist like clipse,KRS-one, ghostface killah, talib kweli, redman, mos def, method man, rakim, and has amassed 100 tracks preparing for this album which features inpeccable production and sure fire lyricsm. and for those that rated him a 1 need to be banned from this site
Reks is doing his thing. Gray hairs is gonna be classical. If you feeling Reks try and grab Along Came the Chosen (his 1st cd). One of the artist from the Bean who never disappoints.
