Reflection Eternal - Just Begun
Artist: Reflection Eternal
Featuring: J. Blue , Jay Electronica , Mos Def
Producer: Hi-Tek
Album: Revolutions Per Minute
Label: Blacksmith Records/Warner Bros.
About a month ago the internet got its collective headphones in a bunch when a bootleg version of Reflection Eternal’s new track Just Begun leaked, so I can only imagine the reaction now that we’ve been blessed with the official, high quality cut. Long story short, Reflection Eternal (a.k.a. Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek, a.k.a. the duo that gave us the classic album Train of Thought) has reunited and they’re bringing some of their dopest friends along for the ride on Just Begun, including hip-hop messiah Jay Electronica, the future of Roc Nation J. Cole and, of course, the almighty Mos Def. Thankfully this All-Star emcee roster live up to their mic killing reputations, collectively creating something in the ballpark of a quasi-underground, super laid-back version of Forever. Something tells me we’ve only just begun to hear what Reflection Eternal has in store for us…I apologize for the pun. Reflection Eternal’s new album Revolutions Per Minute will hit turntables, stores and online outlets in March.

Now as powerful as the line-up we saw in Forever (sorry, Nathan), but quite the collaboration! If this doesn't get you excited for the new RE project I don't know what will...
Favorite Contribution: J. Cole. |

This track is very enjoyable to listen to; I love the jazz-influenced melody and the steady-but-sure progression the song takes. The album is sure to be well-received.

The underground version of Forever is a great way to describe this track. The productions laid back & all 4 bring some great rhymes with that laid back flow.
Jay Electronica is Hip Hop's messiah. very keen to hear that Nas collaboration (Act II i think its meant to be called) |

Now THIS is a line-up. Production is great as expected (love the smooth, jazz feel), and the verses are sick to the bone. Cannot wait for the Reflection Eternal album. 2010 is looking nice at the moment.

Agree with Aussie_Pride. "Underground version of Forever" is a perfect name. It's not as hard hitting but lyrically just as dope or maybe even better. Everyone held their own and Hi-Tek's jazzing beat gave the song a great laid back feel. But J. Cole left me stunned with a jaw dropping verse. If this is the "underground Forever", I bet we all could say he was the "Eminem" of the song.

My opinion J. Cole had the best verse but this beat is straight fire, was a lil disappointed in Jay Electronica, he wasn't bad just expected him to be better but he still has my respect and he had some bars so...

After listening to this joint for almost a month straight, I can honestly say, the tracks appeals haven't worn off much. In terms of tracks (or posse cuts) you can not possibly go wrong with this, each verse is phenomenal in terms of quality.
They don’t rely on the hook to bring it to life; they are really going for broke here as each emcee barely takes a breath in delivering airtight verses, while the beat is subtly resting beneath them, making things sound dope in the truest rhymes and beats fashion. Can J. Cole hold it down? Any doubters should be slapped right now! We all pray for the best of times, and this track delivers that sentiment perfectly... 5 Mics, XXL, 10/10 |

(Aye, yo, Hi-Tek Do me a favor, man, speed it up a little bit) From the intro you know I’m so influential, cause I’m glowin like a candle The focus is so essential, dawg, what you tryna get into? Talib Kewli went in HARD on this track. The production is nice and simple and crisp. Perfect beat to pay attention to the words that are being spit. Everyone represented on here! Another BANGER! MOS KILLS IT!

Ok, so I was bumping this in the crib and the wifey (who obviously has great taste, obviously) said "this is dope, but honestly Kweli's verse sounds forced to me, like he wasn't listening to the best." I listened to it a few more times and I'll be damned if she's not right. Still, it's a relatively small complaint in a track full of dopeness, especially considering Mos' rap.

Oh, and I guarantee J. Cole is the first (and last) rapper to compare himself to Pau Gasol.

to me it went from "O.K" to def. in rotation and j. Cole had a lot to do with that, I'm going to have to adjust with that beat tho....

I'm already gonna call this one of the illest songs of 2010! This is too insane! Lyrical heads like me live for this stuff. Absolute classic.
P.S. This song is waaaay better than Forever. |

Had to listen to Def's verse extra close to really get his flow but each artist killed it in their own way. Each giving his own flow and yet all flowing together. Jay Electronica's last few bars sold me. Talib definitely a good opener.
