Redman - Oh My
Artist: Redman
Producer: Andrew "Pop" Wensel
Album: Reggie Noble 9 1/2
Label: Gillahouse/Def Jam
Every so often emcees struggle for years to prove their worth, only to find themselves in a musical dilemma: they’re too high-profile to be classified as underground, but too under-the-radar to make the full crossover to mainstream. This usually tends to be a crippling disease, but street vet Redman breaks barriers in both directions, retaining the diehard fans he started with while consistently adding new ones. His latest single, Oh My, is the latest display of his versatility, featuring multilayered, big band production from Andrew “Pop” Wensel that’s unpredictable and persistent enough to match Red’s off-the-wall lyrics (Family Guy watchers will rejoice at hearing the Quagmire reference midway through). Above all, Red’s delivery still shows off the mixture of smoothness and power that he’s mastered since his 1992 debut. If this track receives the praise and promotion it deserves, fans new and old will be playing it on repeat. Look out for his upcoming album, Reggie Noble 9½, set to drop March 23.

Songs like these prove why Red is so underrated. He has some great punch lines and always has me smiling by the end of the song. I wasn't really feeling the hook and a bit too short but his rhymes make up for it.

Redman is one of the most consistent emcees in the game, though, I do like his work much more when he is joined by Method Man. Andrew "Pop" Wensel really killed this retro production, but the chorus gets very annoying after a few listens. The head does indeed nod throughout - good quality.
PS. Red, I hate to break it to you, but I doubt you'll get to smoke with Obama in the Pentagon. |

Red always has a dope flow and some dope punchlines. The production fit him well and I didn't have a problem with the hook. Yeah it was repetitive but I dug it.

p[roduction was on point, I don't know what the female singer screamming in the back was about, I would of liked to see somebody like Kanye or somebody more kjown to use this type of production/ I just don't think it fits Red.

Allow me to channel my inner Russell Crowe for a moment:
Were you not entertained!? Were you not entertained!? Redman's the most consistently entertaining emcee in the game, and while this was unexpected, I had a damn good time. Three stars, plus a bonus star for being in the greatest Cribs episode of all-time equals four stars for Red. |

The beat is catchy and has a definite bounce, the lyrics were entertaining, not a fan of the hook though and think it brought this song down a few notches. Rotation fa sho!

OK...maybe sounds a little like Luda and not your typical Redman fare, but Red warned that his new LP would be a little on the commercial side...bottom line: my head is bobbin'...Red is staying relevant, and this is what it takes...
