After the summer releases of Ray L’s sexually-stimulating buzz singles, My Girl Gotta Girlfriend and Donkey Kong, the Konvict Muzik artist excitedly awaited the chance to drop his debut album this past September. Following the project’s delay, though, Ray decided to switch up his sound and slow down his work for the catchy, Checkin’ My Phone. For a fourth go-round, Ray L has gone with the ‘traditional R&B ballad’ route on the relationship-heavy, Stay. Accompanied by a slow, quiet sounding piano (a la Tyrese‘s One), there’s no reason to believe Ray Lavender wouldn’t be able to stay for quite a while at Urban AC radio. Whether that will be enough to get X-Rayted a solid release date, however, remains to be seen.
This song is OK. I think he is talented, but just not enough to be as good as the other top R&B guys out there. It sounds like a Jagged Edge joint from 8 years ago...
Ray L is still a B-lister r&b artist in my eyes. He has yet to have a stand out track for me, his previous 'hits' were catchy, but forgettable. With that being said, I love the throwback feel of this track. Like myself, I'm sure many of you grew up with r&b tracks like this. Too bad this track lacked uniqueness and originality.
Have to agree with DJ Blaze on that Jagged Edge comparison. Nothing special here. DEFINITELY not enough to separate him from the ever growing crop of R&B artists. Especially with what Trey and Ush for example have been bringing lately. That being sad, I have heard ALOT worse and at least he can actually sing.
It's a shame they weren't able to drop this album at the height of My Girl's Gotta Girlfriend. Now they need to build back his buzz with a new single, and I don't think this is it. Ray-L, go listen to some Izza Kizza and speed up your production, Akon will help (I promise.)
Very emotional song, seems very talented, but has no bumping potential. This is one chicks would listen to in their room. Almost has the sound of R. Kelly World's Greatest.
Loads of stuff happening with Konvict. First, there's gonna be a tour with everyone from Konvict coming up. Next, Akon's dropping his 08 album, "Acquitted" soon, hopefully in the first week of May. He's gonna start working on "Double Jeopardy", his fourth album. The supposed first single for Acquitted is planned to feature Michael Jackson. T-Pain's working on his stuff too. Rock City was planned to drop "Losing It" in March and though they now have dulled the hype on Ray-L, X-Rayted will come eventually. 2008 might just be the year of the konvicts.
Maybe it is because Ray Lavender is so handsome that I love this song. It does remind me of a Jagged Edge song but those were my favorites so in the words of supagirl300 "I'm goint to "Stay" loving this"
