To quote Kanye, “It’s a Celebration, b*tches!” Though Ray J, of course, needs no special occasion to head out to the club, mack on some honeys and pop a few bottles. Devotees of the singer/reality TV star were recently given two excellent reasons to rejoice: the Pitbull-assisted 1 Thing Leads to Another and this new joint, which finds Ray hooking up with guest rapper extraordinaire Ludacris for an epic night on the town. Frequent collaborator Darkchild mans the boards, serving up a beat driven by strings and burbling synths as the headliner recounts an evening of liquor-soaked revelry. For his part, Luda once again succeeds in finding fresh new ways to address the time-honored topic of currency, notably boasting of getting “Paper long as Penélope Cruz’ nose.” Oh, snap… could this be the opening salvo of a developing beef? Uh, on second thought, probably not. Regardless, those who like what they’re hearing should keep their browsers locked on DJBooth.net for the latest on Ray J’s fifth studio album, which has yet to receive either a title or a solid drop date from SRC/Knockout.

Ray J is like a broken cook top - sometimes he is hot, other times not. I could see people loving this song, going crazy to it in the clubs, and requesting it at radio nonstop. I could also see it being overshadowed by the dual single with Pitbull, which caters to the current club-ready trend. We shall see.

I really like the production -- and it sounds great for a club environment. Ray J actually sounded good on here to me, although lyrics are pretty much the usual for a club-ready song. Luda sounded good over the production, but his verse didn't really add much musically to the song. Overall, it's nothing special, but I like it.

Side note: I love Kanye's song celebration, just like every other song on Late Registration. It was essentially my first hip hop album and I still love it.

i was considering giving this its first 4, but seeing as its ray j, doing a club track (is there anything else?) with luda as a feature (i mean, i love luda, one of my favourites but he cant be letting himself seem like weezy, jumping on everything possible, be selective is all im saying). so ill stay neutral and throw it in rotation

I didn’t really like this until Luda kicked in but still a solid song from Ray.

Ray J could have been any singer, I"m not sure what he does that no one else does (other than sex tapes with...never mind.) But with a nice club beat and a decent Ludacris verse, I have to say, this is far more enjoyable than I was expecting.

Ray J has been chasing the fame lately rather than giving us quality R&B to bump...Raydiation was his best album, 'One Wish' is classic!
This works for me, Darkchild always supply's Ray J with the gas....much better look than the Pitbull record. 3.5 stars |
