In light of the Rapsody‘s recent collaborations with the second most-blunted rapper in Pittsburgh (that’d be Mac Miller, for those not keeping score), you’d be forgiven for assuming that mixtape leak Hella High found the Kooley High femcee getting lifted on a certain leafy herb. On the contrary, though, the artist’s latest single makes manifestly clear that hip-hop is still her drug of choice. Not that she’d be bad if you lit one up while listening, of course. Here, Rap once again enlists the production services of fellow First in Flight State repper 9th Wonder, who serves up a dense, hazy sample collage of a beat (dig the Flexatone!) to back her as she pays tribute to dope rappers past and present. Along with such eminent names as Notorious B.I.G., the artist peppers her bars with references to fellow Booth-approved up-and-comers: “Wanna be hot like Nip / Hustle, bulge like muscle, to the homie Big K.R.I.T. / ReturnOf4Eva, North and South, musical high sh*t.” The perfect rejoinder to all who would claim our generation lacks rap talent and a dope listen in its own right, Hella High is just one of many quality cuts set for inclusion on Rapsody’s Thank H.E.R. Now mixtape, coming June 21.

I see Rapsody as more than just a "female emcee," but since she is indeed a female emcee I have made her my favorite. Kapesh?

@DJ Z I agree. I think this song in particular isn't her best track but is not bad at all. Honestly, I didn't know about her until her recent collab with Mac Miller but that track was amazing so I went and listened to her music and she is very talented and there aren't many "Female Emcee's" around so she has a shot at something.

I don't think she's in the same area code as Jean Grae. Saying that, I prolly shouldn't have listened to this considering I'm not too fond of her other works that I've heard, but I try to give everything a chance. This just doesn't do it for me...

I think true, real hip-hop transcends race, gender, ro sexuality. Rapsody is evidence of this. She has great talent and is a true hip hop artist. However, I don't think this track is one of her best efforts. I feel like the beat is a little off. Rapsody does he best, but I feel like the beat ruins the flow of the song too much for this to be a banger.

This track has a real Hip Hop feel to it, I'm usually not a big fan of female MC's but this one goes. It's smooth, melodic & lots of shoutouts to true artists blended in. I can definitely see myself enjoying her music in the form of a mixtape / EP or album.

She's so laid back with a very chill flow. I've long liked Rapsody and what she has to offer to music. Definitely more than just a female emcee to me.
