Do you miss “real hip-hop”? Well, Rakim does, and he wants the world to know it on the aptly titled, Hip-Hop, located on the March 4th release of The Archive: Live, Lost & Found. Reminiscing about the days he spit bars of fury next to Eric B., Rakim does more than just rhyme about the “golden years;” he explains the differences. Citing “pop charts are killing underground Hip-Hop” isn’t something that many fans or followers could argue with, right? Since the ’99 release of The Master, the Long Island native has yet to drop a new full-length studio album. However, The Archive: Live, Lost & Found will contain four never-before-heard tracks. Now that is hip-hop!
Rakim is back! Nice. Old school flow is teaching some of these young cats what's up, including me. And please nobody on here comment with "I don't like dis kind of rap". Without this rap, there would be no rap. Keep that in mind
The definition of hip-hop is lost. The essence of hip-hop is lost and most listeners today don't even know that it existed before this thing called ring tone rap. It is up to the pioneers like Rakim and KRS who are still relevant to take these one-hit-wonders to school. Too bad no one's listening. This is a good start but more searching needs to be done!
MICHAELHANNAH, I couldn’t put it in better words! ;) Let’s just hope “WOW!!” reads it before giving us more of that “I don't like dis kind of rap cuz it's oldschool” (lol at the “dis” you use to characterize and then just after you type "this" correctly…)
i have no problem givin props to the old school, but 4 real, peeps r gettin older, and u can't expect the younger kids to like the old stuff. they will naturally rebel and try to find their own style of music. Isn't that what ya'll did when ya'll were kids? Sometimes u gotta change ur styles man, it's the 21st century, try somethin new n stop livin in the past. good track though
WOW! A new Rakim Track??? Where you been Rak? I am really not feeling the flow on this track. You can tell he is an old school artist trying to make it in today's overwhelmingly new school industry. I just think it's ok and it is just a little too late for his flow to be really good in my opinion. Much respect for a veteran, but I'm not buying this album.
If I wanted to hear guys cry about not being hot right now because their style isn't selling records like they once did, then maybe i'd like this song. But give it a rest oldy-locks, i wonder why he hasn't put out a cd since the late 90's. And after hearing this I know exactly why.
Boyz n Blue..how u gone disrespect the man that was SICK enuff to INVENT..not mimmick..but,INVENT the art of flowin? Show some respect! You just took hatred to anotha level...offer this world somethin as significant as Rakim has, then MAYBE,Maybe, then you can make a comment like that!....
Yo D Frisco, don't even trip man. Boyz n Blue just don't know. Peep his favorite aritsts that he lists on his DjBooth:
