Rahzel Jr. - OverAchiever [Online Premiere]
Artist: Rahzel Jr.
Producer: Kajmir Royale
Album: OverAchievement LP
Label: Ready Roc Ent.
When DJBooth Editor Nathan S. sent me a little motivation music this morning I wondered if the online premiere of OverAchiever was a subliminal message telling me I need to step my game up, but regardless, it’s a hell of a way to start off the day. Production wise, Kajimir Royale provides a beat that sounds like a sunny day on Miami Beach. Meanwhile, Rahzel Jr. (son of Rahzel from the legendary Roots crew) lives up to his pedigree with bars like “Your career’s a short stay/ temporary like the Day’s Inn/ I’m only a couple days in/ they calling me amazing.” Ironically, this song falls short of its aim as singer B-Fuego emits a chorus that “underachieves”. While strong verses from Rahzel Jr. and partner-in-rhyme Biggz (who sounds like a less stoned Styles P) make OverAchiever a good listen, the song doesn’t quite leave you “hooked”. But who cares what I think? Let’s hear what the Booth has to say! If y’all are digging this, then be sure to check out Rahzel Jr.’s OverAchievement LP in May.

Kajmir Royale has been on my "you see his name, you listen to the track" short list lately, so its fitting I jumped on this Rahzel record. While I agree with Quentin in that the hook is slightly disappointing (drop the effects), the overall vibe of the record is uplifting and fun.
We have few more nuggets from Rahzel that we plan to drop soon. I am pretty sure they will reassure you that dude has talent. |

Another track tring to do too much with too many musical styles mashing up. It didn't work for me.

I'm gonna have to agree with Q and say I wasn't really feeling this one. There's nothing noticeably wrong with it, but there's nothing that really stand out, and the hook definitely needs work.
Still, being Rahzel's son has to bring a lot of pressure. I'm interested in seeing where Jr. goes from here. |

"Inoffensive while it lasts, the song has very little to no replay value for me."
