For years now, the predictable “re-release” has helped artists to achieve an RIAA certification that their originally-released project could not attain on its own. Following in the footsteps of recent re-releasees Rihanna and Chris Brown, neo-soul singer Raheem DeVaughn is hoping that his repackaged effort will help reinvigorate his always-growing but unresponsive fan base. Kicking off Love Behind The Melody (Version 2.0) is the relatable (and super-duper trendy) single, Text Messages. Singing in ‘shorthand format’ and using popular lingo like “LOL”, “ASAP” and “XOXO,” DeVaughn manages to soulfully capture how impersonal our communication has become. While the singer claims his inbox is ‘completely full,’ look for production team the Starmakers to experience that same fate as Text Messages goes on replay all summer long.
Everybody is re-releasing something. I know if I bought the first CD and they re-released that album, I would be vexed. Here's my 2 cent: Don't buy an album when it first hits the shelves but wait 4-6 months later to see if a newer version is coming. I understand what the companies are doing, let me leave it at that. If you are into that smooth-babymaking music, you need to check this album out.
This reminds me of a old Ginuwine track for some reason. This is a cool lil track. nothin special, but I can see playin this during a nice moment with my lady. Somethin smooth.

LOL, everybody with these re-releases this summer. This is definitely not bad at all though. It's actually the best track I've heard from Raheem DeVaughn ever. I like some of this classic pure R&B without a rapper featuring and all that. This kind of reminds me of some Marques Houston, early Usher or REALLY EARLY R. Kelly. I like this. A classic slow jam.
Is it just me, or am I the only one who missed the 90s? I mean, I was born in 1988 and basically grew up in the 90s, and I remember these type of tracks. I miss this.
I like Raheem Devaughn a lot. Some of my favorite R&B songs within the last few years have come by him. This one is hip but it's just ok to me. I'd give it 2 1/2 stars.
Well I'm definately a Raheem DeVaughn fan. Slow grooves, baby making music, crooning, or whatever you want to call it, he is damn good at it. His best ever... nah. Breathe, Believe and You from his first album are better. I'm glad released this "trendy" song before someone else came out with something along the same lines. I'm bout tired of hearing eh- eh- eh in every other song. l8r
That hollow snare had me on the first knock. Beat is a definate hit. Gonna be a hit with the young female listeners (My generation). Not much you can do when your lyrics are restricted to text accronyms, but DeVaughn accomplished a hit.
michaelhannah you are not the only one who grew up in the 90s....as my nickname says, I was born in 1985 so I was very young during the 80s! And I remember this type of songs, too. But I'm not crazy for them! For example this song is smooth and sexy, his voice is super hot but it's everything kinda boring...when I listen to an r&b song, I prefer those like the previous one (by Colby)...this is too slow, after a while it becomes a monotonous tune to me
MH.... I REALLY miss the 90's (the music was sooo good). And whoever said that this sounds like a Marques Houston track is spot on, that is first person that came to mind after I took a listen.
