While I doubt that much of anything Raekwon‘s produced could be described as “soft,” the grimy nature of the Wu-Tang icon’s latest EP video single deserves emphasis—as the title says, “This Sh*t Hard.” Released along with visuals by Gregory Buissereth, this joint finds the Chef lacing The Olympicks’ tension-fraught sample work with deadpan crack lyricism. Chi-town’s L.E.P. Bogus Boys assist on the guest tip. Released earlier this year, Rae’s Unexpected Victory EP is available for free download online.

Shyt’s hard but I’ve heard Rae harder. The words and concept is tight but I don’t like the track. It all sounds too busy and familiar, almost like I’ve heard it before. It’s not an original sounding song to me and I like L.E.P.
This is one of those cases where I like the artists involved but can’t get into this particular record for whatever reason. |
