California Love, California Dreaming, California Girls (the Beach Boys song, the Katy Perry song and the David Lee Roth cover of the Beach Boys song), California King Bed, Phantom Planet’s California (of OC fame)... and that’s just off the top. Whether the Golden State is a touch over-celebrated or simply that good (I’ve never been, so I wouldn’t know), it’s hard to hold hold that against a cut as catchy as Radical Something‘s latest single, a state anthem titled—wait for it—California. Here, the crew’s lazy, reggae-informed acoustic-guitar beat sets the mood as vocalists Loggy and Josh Cocktail pay tribute to the paradise that beckons them back no matter how far they travel: “Every time I leave, you know I’m always second-guessin’ it, thinkin’ I’ll regret it but, you know I’m comin’ back in the end and I’ve accepted it.” Even if you don’t live on the Left—or any—Coast, this laid-back selection is the perfect to enjoy while leaning back in a beach chair, umbrella drink sweating in your hand. For more tropically fresh tuneage, check out Radical Something’s self-titled digital album when it hits the ‘net in late August.
