It’s been a minute since we’ve featured any election-themed records, so our regulars could be forgiven for thinking that artists had taken a break from Baracking the mic (at least until Inauguration Day). There is, however, one Chitown superstar who we haven’t yet heard from regarding Obama’s historic victory. Give up? It’s R. Kelly, who’s back in the Booth with the anthemic I Believe. Written on Election Night, this soulful, self-produced cut kicks off with a sample of our President-Elect’s post-Iowa Caucus victory speech, which gives way to a subdued, choir-backed beat as the R&B singer professes his belief that Obama will fulfill his promise to bring change to America. There has been no word thus far as to whether this promo single, released earlier this week, will make it onto Kelly’s long-delayed tenth album, 12 Play: Fourth Quarter, which has yet to receive a drop date from Jive. While R. Kelly may not actually be able to fly, there’s a good chance that the beliefs he expresses in this song will hold true in the years ahead.

Aight aight, I guess I can take another Obama song. Kinda late to the party on putting this one out, but I can still dig it. Has the same exact feel to it as his other hits like I Can Believe I Can Fly and The Worlds Greatest. Still, this one doesn't rank as high because it sounds quickly put together, especially the chorus. Overall 3 star track from Kells.

Well when it first started I thought I wasn't gonna feel this one. BUT DAMN, could I get any wronger??!!? Jeez I should know I'm a sucker for his voice. The topic isn't something that I enjoy listening to but his voice just pulls me in. So subject matter- could care waaay less and I don't like that choir in the background, beat- fine, and voice- hella good. 4*s

A little late on this one, R? Clearance issues, maybe? Now that Obama is the President Elect, did they need to go to his future cabinet members to get the rights to his speech materials? Haha - I got jokes.
... I can fly.... much better. |

This is a well crafted R. Kelly song. In the light of all his bull his been attached too, he needs to make more songs like this to build tolerance amongst people for him again. This isn't the best song I've ever heard, but it's pretty great. R.Kelly whipped together the right ingredients for this one and sounded like he put his heart out on this world music banger.

This song has been out for at least a month. It was unfinished as the song ended when he said "and now I got something to tell my children." Y'all have to hear the adlibs when the second verse comes in. Listen to the words and you'll be drawn in. Who else can pull off an uplifting song better than R. Kelly?

This is a very good song. It is very creative. I like a lot. I think the flow of Obama's words and the music fell into eachother very nicely. The production is sensational. And the the music and Kelly's voice go hand in hand. I just think is lyrics could be a bit better. I love this track though.

I am sick and tired of those STUPID Barack Obama tracks. You will see, he will be the worst President on record. Will all of his radical associations, Obama will go up for impeachment. I will never call this man President, I will not even call him a Senator, just Mr. Obama!

You know what i'm sick of? People like stefanwatson stereotyping songs in the Booth and then still rating them badly and adding comments about their own views... well i guess he his expressing his views and so are all the artists. I just think music should be judged fairly, as music. I've seen members rating an album 'Garbage' without even listening to it. To the song now... For or against Obama, this is a good song. I think Kels production and voice are excellent here. The lyrics could've been better but they still have power

I am happy for Obama winning because of his race, BUT, it comes at a bad time. This is not a time to be bragging about all the history that he has made or anything like that. We have a serious problem called the economy, that Obama will tear apart! With all the things that he wants to implement, our economy will be in the sh*tter even more! I think that he proceeder Pres. Bush was a very good president, nothing like Obama will be. You know what I am tired of, people like you even thinking of supporting this idiot!
-Just in case that you did not know: OBAMA IS HALF WHITE!! |

i think that the song is about hope which right now we all need, and the fact is if you listen to the words of the actual song its nice. if some people think that the election of a president that isnt like the last “two term loser” marks the “end of the Good Ole USA” then we really need every drop of the hope and inspiration R Kelly speeaks about. the fact that the election of an AA president could cause the venomous and evil discourse i read above is further proof that hope is desperately needed.I BELIEVE that one day this wont be the case. I BELIEVE that one day anyone really can be anything they want in this country, without persecution and persuit by such hate mongery. I still BELIEVE in “innocent until (maybe even add unless) proven guilty. it still seems to work for the white collar (often white skinned) crooks who have fleeced this country and left “the change guy” to pick up the pieces. and lastly I BELIEVE that there is hope for all of us, that things can get better, that circumstances and people do change. I BELIEVE.
when discussing the election a friend said “Wow, we elected a black President.. it’s just crazy the feeling, i cant believe it!!!” It was his words of joy that really made me think. how crazy is it exactly? how unbelievable? Very much so but because for as long as i can remember as a black American thats what we were told. By people in public, behind our backs(and often to our face), in mainstream media, we got the message that such a thing was just”crazy” to even think of. we watched the consequences our forefathers and friends have suffered, not in some faraway place but in the streets of our cities both north and south for thinking “crazy” thoughts. a subtle reminder of what can and will happen to a black person in America for thinking too “crazy”. the same but never equal. But that has changed. Yesterday someone told us its not crazy, its possible. difficult, but possible. A black person(or any other person) in America really can do anything anyone else can, it’s just that we have been told otherwise for so long a lot of us dont believe it anymore.. Believe. millions of people in this great country black and otherwise have to believe what they see with their own eyes. We should never lose faith, never stop believing. We can. We did. We will again if a few can believe. Thank you Barack for showing us the way. Thank you R KELLY for puttingsong to the way so many people are obviously feeling. |

Man, Inspirational songs aren't usually my fortay - Kels or not. I Believe I Can Fly had to really grow on me until I had no choice but to like it cause they played it so much.
Kels is the King, though and I have to give it to him. His voice is unique and he sings with the same soul and energy about gettin down w/ a hottie as he does about lifting our sprits. You gotta love him for that! If Obama ever had a theme song, I definately think this could be it. This one won't be in rotation, just because I can't get down (dancefloor or otherwise) off of it, but it definately is a classic! |

Wow, not a bad song. I tend to like R. Kelly songs like this. However, I do like Usher song that he did for Obama more.
Oh on a side note.... People are entitled to their own opinions or believes, but why is it that people have to blast and impose negative comments on others? Let me say this to stefanwatson since we want to share opinions - history has been made and as a nation we voted for CHANGE... I believe that OBAMA will bring this. I think that we needed something to celebrate and rejoice with because we have not been able to do any of that as a country for a long time. The man has not been inagurated yet and we are already passing judgement. The economy, war, etc will not be cleaned up in a a short period of time and it will take sometime. But I do believe that this man deserves a chance and I feel that he will do a hell of a better job than the so called president we have now. Yes he is half white but look at his family for crying out loud.. That man is black and he is proud of it!!! Since we want to talk about the race issue. Does he look like any of the presidents we have had in the past? So calm down, relax and pray that this man can clean up this big ass mess that Mr. Bush is leaving behind. Back to the song - I give it 4 stars *wink* |

LMAO stefwatson, you're a fool, Obama will become more and more better than Bush, hell he already is. For one, stop rating the song more than once. Second, you're really stupid if you're rating this song a 1 because you think Obama sucks. Third, who wouldn't support Obama? He's the man who not only already made a difference, he will continue making a difference in the US. Unlike Bush who was driving it downhill. Bush was better? LOL give me a break.

TO STEFAN WATSON. LET ME GET 1 THING STRAIGHT TO HEAD CUZ. YES OBAMA IS AN AFRICAN AMERICAN MAN WITH AN AFRICAN FATHER WITH A BLACK A FAMILY THE FACT THAT HE IS HALF WHITE THAT IS JUS A CONDELANCE TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU. AND PEOPLE LIKE YOU WILL NEVER ACCEPT HIM IN YOUR LIL WORLD SO IT IS SAFE TO SAY THAT THIS MAN IS BLACK. AND THE ONLY REASON WHY YOU HATE HIM IS BECAUSE OF HIS HYPE AND PRIDE THAT HE BROUGHT TO AMERICANS NOT ONLY BLACK, BUT ALL AMERICANS AND ANOTHER THING YOU NEED TO ACCEPT IS AMERICA IS NT WHITE PEOPLE COUNTRY ITS FOR EVERYONE. AND OBAMA JUST PROVED THAT AND IGNORANT PEOPLE LIKE YOU JUST DONT WANT TO ACCEPT IT. AND AS FOR HIM BEING NOT A PRESIDENT IN YOUR EYES WONT CHANG THE FACT THAT 2DAY IT WAS MADE OFFICIAL THAT YOU NOW HAVE A BLACK PRESIDENT AND YOUR IGNORANT VIEW IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE THAT. AND IF YOU DONT ACCEPT THAT THEN MOVE TO MOSCOW BECAUSE IT WILL BE TIME TILL THEY IS A BLACK PRESIDENT THERE LOL. BUT SERIOUSLY YOU NEED HELP. I AM TRYING TO THINK OF 1 REASON WHY OBAMA IS NOT FOR PRESIDENCY BESIDES HIS SKIN COLOUR. AND WAT DID BUSH FOR THE COUNTRY THAT IS SO GREAT. ( THE FACT THAT OBAMA IS PRESIDENT THAT ALONE HAS MADE AMERICA A BETTER COUNTRY AND WHAT HE IS GOING TO DO AFTER WILL BE JUS ADDING ON TO THAT ) ALSO THE GUY IS INTELLIGENT WAY MORE THAN BUSH AND THIS IS A FACT STEFFY.
