Usually when we think of people speaking in tongues we imagine a parishioner catching the holy spirit in church. However, R&B veteran R. Kelly, with the help of Ludacris, have somehow managed to take the term and use it to describe their sexual prowess. Ten seconds into Tongues and it’s obvious Kels is intent on bringing us a club record, but is it good enough to bang at your local hot spot? The production from Bangladesh is what you’d expect from the man: a two bar sample on repeat the whole time and heavily pounding percussion. It may not be as simplistic as his previous works like A Milli, but it’s still pretty simple. On the mic Ludacris throws in a nice verse full of his typical bedroom bragging, and on the vocal side Kels once again proves that, no matter how old he gets, he can still put together a catchy melody with the best of them. If I’m the only one who find the sample annoying and Tongues becomes a hit, we’ll be hearing Kelly’s upcoming and currently unscheduled new album Zodiac sooner rather than later.

The "Hail Mary, Full of Grace" part at the beginning was awkward, but other than that, solid song.

This is damn near garbage. If it wasn't for Ludacris's amazing verse this song would have 1 star. But since ludacris's verse is only like 1/5 of this song i can't give it any more than one extra star because of his efforts. And the hail mary full of grace was just really akward, I almost stopped listening once i heard that.

This song is not something that I expected from R.Kelly, and I'm truly disappointed. Luda's verse was ok, and I just hope that this is the end of his "Battle of sexes era".

For those that took one listen and was like what the heck you'll have to give it a couple of more listens. The "tongues" background vocals will throw you off but you'll come to appreciate it. How can you not like Kellz lyrics "she works six days a week, get off on a Sunday/ come over late at night and i eat it like a sundae."

I'm down for any new R. Kelly as a general rule, but this has to be a little disappointing for a Kels and Luda collab. It's good, it's just not that greatness we'd expect from a duo like this.
Like a lot of Kells track, you have to turn your brain off to truly enjoy. Hit the switch on your intelligence and it's a good time. And I heard the same thing as Aussie. I think this might be the unfinished version - either that or Kels really let the track breath at the end. Doesn't sound like there should be another verse of bridge starting around the 2:50 mark?

the beat didn't grab me, the hook was a bore, and unfortunately r. kelly just didn't do it for me (lyrically) at all. luda's verse is the only reason this song got a star from me.

I love this song you just got to listen to it alot of times to really get into it. I think the song is suppose to start slow, and as the song goes on it gets better and better 5 stars, you just got to let it sink in.

Luda is the only reason anyone in their right mind should listen to this again, and I'd rather just listen to the goddamn acapella. Thank you Bang for delivering a beat that's worse than A Milli, because I was starting to think it would never happen.
Someone hit the nail right, it definitely does take more than one listen for your brain to malfunction--or appreciate the spectacular Classic we have on our hands. |

Ridiculously annoying beat but also ridiculously annoyingly catchy.
Wow, I love Ludacris' verse. The only reason why there is an additional star. Kells was wack in this song. Boring verses and chorus. |
