Quincy Jones - Sanford and Son
Artist: Quincy Jones
Featuring: T.I. , B.o.B , Prince Charlez
Producer: RedOne
Album: Q: Soul Bossa Nostra
Label: Qwest Records/Interscope
When you’ve been around as long as Quincy Jones and influenced as many careers with your creative genius, you get to a point where it’s OK to sit back and let others pay tribute to your accomplishments. Thus, we have the guest-heavy Q: Soul Bossa Nostra on deck, with updated renderings of Jones’ most memorable works. The theme to Sanford and Son gets a makeover courtesy of T.I., B.o.B., Prince Charlez and Mohombi, and there’s no skimping on emcee bravado or Auto-Tune in the hook. The rustic bounce from the harp, sax and guitar playfully bantering on the original is nearly blotted out by airy synth melodies and 808 kicks. In fact, Sanford and Son ends up sounding so much like T.I.‘s Live Your Life that you half expect to hear Rihanna singing “Ayyye-ayyyye-ayyyye.” T.I. and B.o.B. deliver solid verses, and Mohombi excels on the bridge, but the song is driven by Charlez’ silky hook. Originally set for release this past spring, Q: Soul Bossa Nostra is set to drop next week, November 9. Congrats to “Uncle Q” on his expansive career and a legacy of phenomenal music that is truly timeless.

I enjoyed and can appreciate both this record and the concept behind the new project from Jones. However, I suggest to all our readers that you do a little digging and find yourselves the original versions - they are almost (99%) always better.

Way, and I mean WAAAAAY better than the other Quincy feature that dropped today featuing T Pain and Robin Thicke remaking "PYT" but we won't go there...
As far as this one, the original is also better but I can dig this new one with the help of Tip and BoB. The soulful hook is also pleasant, making for a start-finish rotation track. |

This is a cool track all around. Not my favorite type of production but its something different and the sanford sample is nice. TI put it down. Wasn't feeling the chorus much. This can go into radio rotation.

Nice track. Beat is tight but the hook could have been different to bring out the sample more but overall ok.

RedOne? Noways, this is a poor production effort. I've heard A LOT better from B.o.B and T.I. For me, the hook is the best part of this track
