QuESt - Were Going Down
Artist: QuESt
Producer: Ace2euce
Album: The Reason: A Defence Mechanism
Label: Unsigned
As I’ve recently noted, rappers’ usage of flight/altitude-based metaphors has been at an all-time, um, high, lately. Always the nonconformist, QuESt has elected to title his new single, an ambitious meditation on fame, fortune and the grind, “Were Going Down.” Title aside, the track is anthemic motivational music through and through, from producer Ace2euce‘s synth-scorching, “ay”-laced boardwork, to the soaring hook, performed by West Palm Beach R&B songstress Ms. Neo. For his part, the headliner comes with some appropriately determined rhymes, advising his peers “Just race your best and you can make it where you wanna be.” but warning against getting too caught up in the superficial pleasures of the LavishLuxurious life. Is QuESt making the right moves in his journey to superstardom? That’s for you to decide. In any case, fans should stay tuned for the latest on The Reason: A Defense Mechanism, which currently lacks a solid release date.

QuEST is a part of a small group of emcee's from South Florida whose career arrow is pointed upwards. I like the club vibe on this particular record, but it is certainly a new sound for QuEST (at least amongst his previous Booth features). Taking it for what it is I am a fan; we'll see if others jump on this bandwagon.

Alright track, it could get some plays in the club but I can't stand the hook. Ms. Neo's voice (if that's the one singing) sounds weird, a new hook would of upgraded the song.

Weird voice and all this is still hot. The production is fire.

I think I can't take more than one "remake" of that OneRepublic hook in library. This is sadly my least favourite. Not anything against QuESt, because for one thing he has some tough competition in that aisle, but the main faults aren't really him here.
The production is just lackluster and the singer... just doesn't "work". That said, not a fan of the "singing" from QuESt either. Overall, I'm disappointed, but I know he has good things coming. |

I've had this record for a while and it's received so many spins. I'm hoping this joint brings QuESt much needed success and is the beginning of some mainstream attention.
I had heard the original "OneRepublic" record before, but didn't go back and listen to it until QuESt sent this over. Now this joint and the original are two of my most favorite joints at the moment! This should be an awesome summer for up and coming hip-hop acts! |

Straight overall, I like the beat, singing sounds very Rhianna-ish. Different lane for him but I guess you gotta expand, I just don't know if his style is right for this type of lane. Plus his voice sounds akward on shit like this to me. But all in all I see what he's doing here, not bad.

Is this better than One Republic's "All The Right Moves"? Probably not, but both Ms. Neo & QuESt certainly do the original justice. As a rule, I don't co-sign "remakes" unless either A. They're done really well or B. They put their own stamp on it. 2 for 2.

Agree with Hoamboy. Hate the hook. This could've been so much better.

Didn't someone else recently use this One Republic sample? Either way, I'm really digging this one. At its surface it sounds like a shallow club record, but it has more depth than you might think if you really listen to it. On repeat.

Owh.. The original song is SO good & strong. The remake is good work, but mix them together just ruined both for me. This song could have been real nice if they didnt lean on One Republic.

HOLY SH8T. Loving this sample from One Republic. Liked the song but always thought it would be better in a different. This is that different way. Quest is nice on this and the vocals from Ms. Neo is mad smooth.

this is a great song. Its a good song to sample (like Drakes congratulation when he sampled coldplay). A little questionable at certain parts but still a good track. They are representing South Florida and doing an outstanding job. keep up the good work.

I dont know about Quest's new approach. His attempt to break into the mainstream is diminished because of the obvious sample choice from One Republic and to me lacks a considerable amount of creativity.
