Believe it not, A Tribe Called Quest has only been separated for 10 years. It seems like an eternity, doesn’t it? Since that fateful day, each of its three members have paved their own paths to relative irrelevance. Muhammad has faded away into R&B, Phife has teased with us empty promises of a comeback, and Q-Tip has toyed with success, only to let us down time and time again. Now in the midst of his fourth attempt at a solo album since ’99, Tip may finally be back on point. The potential lead single, a self-produced morning song called Gettin Up, sounds like a breath of fresh air. Perhaps reuniting with his ATCQ crew for the Rock the Bells tour this year has given him a surge of inspiration. The track will appear on his forthcoming album, The Renaissance, due in September.
Note: The streaming of “Gettin Up” has temporarily been suspended.
Man, why Q-Tip look all old in that pic. I mean, I know he's old, but he gotta better style than that weird haircut. LOL. But his production skills on here is nuts. The piano sample and high equalizing on it is my favorite type of production. This has an awesome vibe and I'm always glad to hear Q-Tip on the microphone.
I was thinin the same thing. Q-tip look like Isiah Thomas in this pic! I'm lookin mad forward to his next album. I think I is just what hip- hop needs right now, in fact another Tribe album would do us justice as well.
I sometimes pray at night that Tip will drop an album before the Cubs win the World Series. With how things are going for the Cubs... Tip better hurry up. This is hot.
i agree w/ JayhawkA13....i dont like any-thin about DIS song wutsoeva. i dont like da beat and i dont like how he sound....so fo me it meanz "wack" like he said.
@ sportzfreek92Its not about mainstream success. Its about being true to your artistry. Like NAS, Busta, etc. Q-Tip just hasn't touch as many people with his as the others.
I thought "freek" was spelled FREAK
Mayne, you on it. the freek prolly dont like it cause t-pain aint anywhere on it. this is Tip being Tip, classic old vibe to it and that good ol fluid Tip delivery. FRESH
I have heard worse but it's not my type of song. The beat isn't horrible (it seems one of Save The Last Dance Soundtrack tracks)but the overall song is boring
IF Q-TIP,CHANNEL LIVE,ATCQ,WU TANG,KRS AND THA REST OF THE OLD SCHOOLS BEST COULD COMBINE IN A COUPLE TRACKS AND MAKE A COME BACK HIP HOP WILL BE CURED FROM ALL OF THIS SATURATED RADIO CRAP!!!
