Last week, DJBooth featured the second installment of the Smirnoff Signature Mix Series; Common and Just Blaze’s 2008 rendition of The Light (It’s Love). This week, the final pairing of acclaimed MC and modern beat-maestros features an ’08 workup of the classic A Tribe Called Quest record, Midnight. Joining the group’s lead MC, Q-Tip, Miami production duo Cool & Dre supply a slightly sped-up modern-day spin on arguably the hottest song to drop off the classic album, Midnight Marauders. As each production was created, it was partnered with a new brand mixed drink. Linking Q-Tip and Cool & Dre is “The Blueberry Abstract,” made with Smirnoff’s Blueberry flavored vodka and lemonade.
It is definitely good to hear from Q-tip right now. The production by cool and dre is as good as ever and Q-Tip's flow is still on-point. A definite BANGER!
great great great production, loving Cool & Dre's work, but Q-Tip is a little boring. Would have preferred someone like Joe on this, I know he's R&B, but an R&B smooth flow to this would have sounded so much better I think. 3 for the production, loving this beat, so true and smooth! This iz this izzzzz
You guys do realize that this song was already created right? They just added new productiojn and Q-Tip "maybe" redid the vocals. So londons finest... no, Joe would not have worked on a song already created over 10 years ago by a Tribe called Quest lol
my bad didn't mean any disrespect from not noticing that its old and already used, I mean, I heard of them through my pops I think, but back in England I never knew of them, not my era, they started around when I was born. Still, without ignorance, I agree with what I recently said on the topic lol, I still think this beat is wasted.
Q-Tip murdered this, the beat is legit as hell even though its not that original, but needless to say this songs been on repeat for me ever since it came out so I think they did their job pretty damn well
