Q Da Kid - On a Mission ft. Jermaine Dupri
Artist: Q Da Kid
Producer: Jermaine Dupri & No I.D
Album: It Was All a Dream
Label: E.G.M.
In the current day and age of cookie-cutter rap, when artists only seem to care about padding their money market accounts, there remain a few youngsters who have overcome obstacles On A Mission to take over the rap game lyrically rather than financially. As you’ve probably seen in commercials for TAG body spray, Brooklyn’s Q da Kid is one of these few. Counted out by many after his former group split up, Q makes some groundbreaking references to Ronald McDonald’s friend Grimace and Heath Ledger’s fatal pill overdose on this his first official single. Jermaine Dupri adds sung hook vocals, delivered in a manner that suggests the TAG/Island Def Jam execs unsuccessfully tried to get Kanye West for the part, and Chicago producer No I.D. contributes his work behind the boards. Q da Kid’s forthcoming debut, It Was All A Dream, currently has no set release date.

Shit is pretty hot. Beat goes hard, and I like the flow on here. The beat is almost too hard though, making it sound a little forced, especially since Q's voice isn't very hard. Dupri is wack on here, the chorus is pretty good, but an overall good track.

I dug Q Da Kid's last single on the booth with the rare Biggie Sample. This production was hot. JD with No I.D? Something tells me No I.D garnered more of the weight on this joint, cuz it sure does reflect. I kind of chuckled at J.D on the hook. It was a good effort though. It's like, it's wack, but it's tight at the same time. I like Q's vocal presence. It's good to hear sincerity instead of phony "hard' sounding type flow that most fabricate anyway. I agree too Babi Boi 3000, I like when people experiment and try to avoid the cliche. This is a solid joint. LOL...you think J.D could drop a full rock joint with those alternative style vocals? He sounded like a real rock singer on that "Got a plan" part. LOL. Real talk.

Creativity is frowned upon in hip-hop nowadays. This song is really unique and I like it. His flow is hard and Dupri does alright. I give it a 3.5 but I'll round it up to be nice.

Flow was good; voice could’ve been harder to match the beat though. When it started, I thought they were goin to sample some RHCP (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) song. It sounded as funky, good job on the rock feel of the beat. But the HOOK?!? Please man, shut up! Throw T-Pain instead! That ruined the effort, can’t show the song to my friends like this... ;) PS: Who else is seein Jay-Z murdering this beat?

Another good joint...Beat is fat as hell, but i disagree throwing T-pain in for J.D...Its somethign different from J.D cause if i was to hear another auto-tune T-pain chorus id shoot myself in the face...Q-spit hard, the game needs him

Love the rock feel here. I wouldn't say J.D. was the ideal choice for the chorus, but frankly, how can you say no to the man who is co-producing the song and got you the record deal? This might be able to do great things at radio, IF... BIG IF... it is pushed the right way across several formats.

Another rock/hip hop song...you have to get used to this new trend, always more producers mix this 2 genres! And I think it's a great mix...as for this song it's good, production is excellent and I'm feeling JD in the chorus. Q's flow in the verses in good, too! In rotation

rap and rock a new trend. they've been intertwined for a while now. Song is nice, I just hope JD doesn't leave Q in the wind like he's done his last 10 or so porjects.
