It appears a solution has finally been discovered for all of the longtime major-label artists whose debut albums have collected dust while awaiting release. Case in point: Q (aka Q Da Kid), signed to So So Def for several years was recently transferred to boss Jermaine Dupri‘s newest label venture, Tag Records (yup, as in the body spray brand). Getting ready for his upcoming I Am Him mixtape, Q gets into Untouchable mode with some classic BK street lyricism. Half of the credit here belongs to BUStheProducer for his percussion-heavy beat and sampling of a little-known Biggie verse (from Pudgee Tha Phat Bastard‘s Think Big). While the I Am Him mixtape has no set release date, look for Q to finally get some long-deserved shine on his new label.
Heard this earlier today, this song is hot! The beat bangs hard and this is a great street cut. I like Q's flow on here. I've never heard of him but I guess thats normal when you're signed to a label but never get any exposure. Anyway, lookin forward to hearing more from this guy.
The production on this is wild. Not sure I like the drums or the Missy scream. But the Biggie sample, Train sound, violin and electric guitar is on point. Q kinda gets lost in the production 4 me.
I like the production! original beat, very catchy...but the song itself it a bit boring. In rotation but I think I could listen to it only in a club, in order to dance
Everything about this record gives me a great hope that the art of classic sampling (good sampling, that is) is not dead. Q needs the chance to shine, this won't do it... but its getting him pointed in the right direction.
