Most modern-day emcees out of the ATL tend to focus on three topics: money, mamis and (dance) moves. While Pusher DeVille has certainly tried his hand at all three of these themes, he is also capable of much more (as previously demonstrated on his Layzie Bone collabo, Runnin’ Out Of Time). Back in the Booth for his second time, Pusher tells the story of a dangerous woman he calls Popsicle, who is known to use her sex appeal to make moola. Assisted by Motown singer M.J. Robinson‘s hook and Shaphan “Maestro” Williams‘s Eminem-inspired beat, Popsicle could be come a favorite amongst money-hungry females and all the men who’ve ever been with one. DeVille will be release his sophomore album, When Push Comes to Shove, later this summer.
I kinda like this. I know some popsicles. The beat on this sounds like somethin chamillionare would rap on to me. Pusher defines a pimptress well on this. 3.5
This is a certified BANGER! I just shook off a certain Popsicle earlier this month (with help from my aunt)...Pusher's one of the more underrated artists around the ATL area; his album's also gonna have Jazze Pha and Lil' Ronnie (who did "I'm A Flirt," "Same Girl," and a few of Bow Wow's productions), as well as MJR and Layzie Bone...Go get it, you'll be surprised that it sounds better than a lot of mainstream albums from the state.
M.J. Robinson rips the hook and Pusher has a skill or two on the mic. He put a lot of thought into this record and the beat is screeching hot. This can potentially be one of those quality club bangers free of corny rhymes.
Don't know how he came up with the term Popsicle, but hey whatever works to get people to listen to it. (see my review for Ashanti's Good Good)...haha, i stand corrected. Hot song though!
Michael, I just thought it sounded like some of the music Em produces for other artists (for example on Obie Trice's music as well as "You Don't Know"). Just to clarify it.
Great production, great chrous work by M.J. and Pusher doesn't do anything but keep the flow going throughout. This is mad catchy. Good collabo all around.
