The 171st entry in our DJBooth.net Freestyle Series comes courtesy of Prote-J, the Florida native who earned reader approval for Foreign back in March. On his brand new, exclusive So Sick freestyle, the currently-unsigned emcee flows over his own original boardwork (featuring samples from Ne-Yo‘s track of the same name). Prote-J is currently busy promoting his recently-released Good Hip Hop Meets Radio EP, out now online and available for free download here.

Readers can download a copy of In the Booth (Volume 4), featuring exclusive freestyles 91 through 120, here! Volumes one, two and three are available for download here, here and here. Watch for Volume 5 to hit our front page in late May.

Prote-J's twist on the Ne-Yo instrumental alone garner him a 4-bagger rating here (in my book), but his rhymes and creativity are to match and back it up easily. Unexpected and welcome all at the same time.

There are so many good lines in here, and the chill instrumental really lets it shine.

Holy shit!!! I agree with Z, the beat alone gets him 4 stars, but his flow is on point so I'm giving it a 5. No sleeping here...bout to go check out his album.

Crazy what he did with that beat. Not too many unsigned artists out that are great rappers and producers. I wanna hear more from this dude

Rapping over Ne-Yo's "So Sick" is definitely a challenge, but I love the way he flipped the beat. IMO, new beats old. Hip-Hop Meets Radio wasn't exactly a classic even though it offered up a few nice tracks ("GoodBye"). Regardless, I can honestly say I'm a fan after just one mixtape and a dope freestyle.

Prote-J has some nice wordplay on this one and the production change puts this right into my rotation.

I heard the intro to Ne-Yo and was iffy, then the beat flipped and all hell broke loose. The kid's original! His lyrics are crazy. He flipped the whole joint, and it is now in rotation. Why is he still unsigned? I heard Good Hip Hop Meets Radio, and its solid from start to finish. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.

WOW so this dude messed me up, I agree with RyanSX that this is not the easiest to mash up, I love the mix better than the original lol. His rhymes are on point too! Confident and nice flow. I give it a 5 star!

I did an interview with Prote-J over on the RefinedHype side of the equation and came away impressed by how talented and put together the dude is.

Goddamn he killed this Ne-Yo beat, and the lyrics were stellar. Let me stop holding back. Prote-J f**king killed this. Dope producer, dope emcee, the man's got a bright future.

No doubt about it, Prote-J is the future of Hip Hop. I've known this kid since Middle School and he's been killing it since then.

The whole game is sleeping on this guy and a fool for not signing him. This freestyle just proves the point even more.

Keep the GOOD Hip Hop coming Pro!

The beat flip alone is worth 4 stars. I'm gonna have to give this 4.5 stars. the lines and presence were nice and the beat is something serious.

I would have expected DJ Z to give 5 stars. I might be swayed to give 5 if I had a shout out. Sweet freestyle Prote-J.
