Prote-J - Bigger Things
Artist: Prote-J
Producer: Prote-J
Album: Dope Raps & Kit Kats
Label: Unsigned
It may not be very reassuring to hear when you’re down, but it’s true: no matter how bad things are, there’s always someone out there who has it worse. Absent since last May’s So Sick freestyle, up-and-coming emcee Prote-J‘s back with a joint that’ll stop even the most strident complainer in mid-gripe. Making its world premiere on our front page, Bigger Things finds the artist working both sides of the boards, cooking up a pensive blend of pensive guitar and distorted vocal samples (shades of MBDTF?), the current Florida resident draws upon his experiences growing up in Papua New Guinea to paint a picture of poverty that will leave beyond what First Worlders have ever experienced: “I’m used to sleepin’ on mats made of coconut leaves, dreamin’ of nightlights that aren’t kerosene lamps.” Difficult as those years were, though, the artist is thankful for having lived through them – while those around him fret over minor inconveniences, he has the will and perspective to keep his eye on the prize at all times. Digging this thought-provoking cut? Bigger Things is just the beginning of the fresh material set to appear on Prote’s Dope Raps & Kit Kats mixtape, due out April 19.

Love it... It actually does seem like a track to get oyu out a a slump. It makes me wanna go do something at least. I like the beat and the serious tone it brings along, goes nice with the message.

Ever since his So Sick Freestyle last year, I've been a big fan of Prote-J. Coming in with the bar already set high he desn't disappoint here. The fact that he produced this himself takes it from 4 stars to 5 stars.

I'm a fan. Flow rhymes are on point, but the chorus could be better... 'bigger'

I agree with our members - the song is solid, the ending is the best part, and the chorus could have been - as the title suggests - bigger. I'm not sure it would have the same overall effect, but it wouldn't hurt either.

I was going to rate this a 4 because this is a great song, but I just wasn't feeling the hook. After bumping this on repeat though, I'm willing to overlook that and say that this is one of my favorite features on The Booth in a minute.

I remember when he released his 'So Sick' freestyle, I had that on repeat for a long while, I'm feeling this alot too, he crafts simple nice beats and then destroys them (in a good destroyer like way)

I usually don't rate a lot of songs 5 stars, but this song really deserves it. Everything, down to the production, verses, and hook, are all top notch. This is some good stuff.
