Prince Charlez - The Greatest
Artist: Prince Charlez
Producer: Jaylien2010
Album: Crowned Royalty
Label: Island/Def Jam
Crazy, but true: in the grips of a somewhat belated midlife crisis, the 61-year-old heir to the British throne has left it all behind to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming The Greatest R&B singer of all time. OK, OK, I lied – as you’ve probably guessed, the man responsible for this newly-leaked mixtape cut is not Charles, Prince of Wales but Prince Charlez, the Island Def Jam crooner previously heard on West Coast State of Mind. On his second feature, the Compton up-and-comer takes aim at a woman who could have been the love of his life, had she kept faith in him and not walked out of the relationship. Backed by the tense, electric guitar-laced boardwork of ATL’s Jaylien2010, Charles delivers a bitter kiss-off to the girl in question, acknowledging that he’s been hurting since she left but making clear that she’s blown her chance for good. Is this moody breakup jam fit for a king? That, Booth readers, is for you to decide. Those digging it can look forward to more fresh tunes on Prince Charles’ Crowned Royalty mixtape, scheduled to drop sometime in October.

The verses are okay, but Charlez vocals (and their respective layers) on the hook and bridge have an undeniable catchiness to them. While I am not overly impressed with the production work of Jaylien2010, his beat does allow Charlez vocals to shine without being compromised by over the top instrumentation.
Needless to say, every sampling we get from this man its clear he is headed in the right direction. |

Nice r&b track, Prince continues to show he's got some legit vocal chops. Unfortunately the beat doesn't help his cause much - it's not bad, it's not good, it's just there - but I've got no doubt Prince has a bright future ahead of him if he gets the proper support.

For this being only Charlez' second feature I am pretty impressed. Catchy hooks result in units moved.
