The Pricks - Ghetto Blaster
Artist: The Pricks
Producer: T-Nut
Album: GoodTalk Vol.9 "Curve Your Enthusiasm" Ed.
Label: Cinematic Music Group/Nuthouse Records
I’d be a lying pr*ck if I said I was prepared for what popped up today in my inbox. That’s right, The Pricks are here with their first Booth feature, and man is it eclectic (what else would you expect from a group that shouts out both the Ramones and N.W.A. as influences?). The Long Beach natives are coming straight out of their signing with Cinematic Music Group in full force to give listeners an earful on the worldwide premiere of Ghetto Blaster. The laid-back, west coast vibe from T-Nut on the boards delivers a perfect balance between the lyrical bombs and otherworldly distortion on the bars. With talented guest features from B-Real and Smoke DZA, The Pricks definitely have major backing (and originality to boot) on their side to keep their momentum going. They certainly have my attention, and I’m sure they’ll grab yours. If you like the notes blasting through your headphones now, be sure to keep an ear out for the Jonny Shipes Presents: GoodTalk Vol.9 “Curve Your Enthusiasm” Edition (dropping Dec. 6), on which the Cali boys will be featured.

I've had this record for several days and every time I've listened to it I've thought the same thing... "Damn, this song is sneaky hella catchy." Its one of those songs that you don't realize you liked after the first few listens, but then you catch yourself humming hours later. The Pricks are more alt than urb, but their sound is unique and genre-bending enough to create some real problems on the mainstream scene. I wonder if radio has a problem using the word "prick" on air...

@DJ Z, I dont think they will allow "prick" to be said... just cuz the radio is listened by all age groups. But i would love to hear this on the air. Also, your right, It is very catchy.
This is a great peice of work from The Pricks. Im feeling this from the secong i pressed play. The flow of the beat and the verse are just a head banging type listen. I love the features of B-Real and Smoke DZA. They did very nice on this, and made the record that much better. Also, good production from T-Nut. A banger, no doubt. |

It looks like these guys are really building a hardcore fan base, and you can see why. Any time you deliver a truly distinctive, completely honest sound, people will take notice. I'd love to hear more from The Pricks, so I think we can consider this track a success.

Like The Tune. The Hook Is Really Catchy. Some Of The Pricks Sound White, But That Doesn't Matter. Good Song. 4/5.

For me the styles dont mesh well. The production is really mellow and their flows are so aggressive excluding the last verse.

This hear sound like some old 90's hip-hop right here. Good to hear B-Real and Smoke DZA on the track.
