After hearing the exciting news that Soup and Mark 7even of Jurassic 5 are joining forces to form Portable Payback, listeners will be hard-pressed to heed the advice of the duo’s debut single and simply Relax. With the two West Coast vets together again, matching each other line for dope line, alternative hip-hop aficionados are liable to have heart palpitations, so it’s a good thing that John Meyer‘s laid-back production keeps the vibe relatively mellow; a snippet of John Haseley’s oft-sampled Hammerhead instrumental imbues the hook with enough brassy swank to fuel a Bond soundtrack or three, and the verses boast a catchy, bass-fortified guitar groove. Though no details have been given regarding a debut album, this record finds the Jurassic 5 alumni in fighting form as they prepare for their triumphant return to the headphones of old-school music-lovers nationwide.

I love the production on this... It's just so smooth! The hook is hot. The flow on the verses is a little slow, and that with the back-and-forth lines give it a sort-of old school flava. These old-school greats sound great over this new-school beat... BANGER

I've never heard of these guys, but I always like to give new music a chance. The production was smooth and I liked the laid back hook a little bit. The lyricism wasn't super dope, but it's a simple, feel good style joint. I liked when homey harmonized on the hook. I'll throw it in rotation.

This feels like music, you know? Like when you actually have talent and musical vision. The sing along approach reveals ear for melody!
This was simply well performed over a well developed and dynamic beat! Uplifting, catchy hook... great bridge! Melodically this is perfect. |

For those of you who know me (know me) - I work ALL THE TIME. Thus, its great to hear a song that has the title "Relax" and actually puts me at ease.
Hip-Hop has disappointed me for the last 2 years... this, however, came through and impressed me. Good to have you back together fellas, lets hear some more.
