Rapper Big Pooh - No Surrendering
Artist: Rapper Big Pooh
Featuring: M-Dot
Producer: Explizit One, cuts by DJ Family Tyz
Album: Out My Mama's Basement
Label: For Members Only
Now that Little Brother is no more, is Rapper Big Pooh going to set down the mic and take a breather? Don’t be “redic!” Not only is the North Carolina native hard at work on the solo tip, he’s also been cooking up plenty of collaborative material – including No Surrender, the latest single off beatsmith Explizit One‘s forthcoming full-length. Over the Massachusetts producer’s tension-fraught piano backdrop, Pooh hits the mic with laid-back determination, effortlessly dropping polysyllabic rhymes and even managing to work in a Punch-Out reference: “Got a concrete stare and a three-piece grin / Glass Joe, let me see your chin.” Boston native (and exclusive freestyle series contributor) M-Dot takes over where Pooh leaves off, lacing the track’s latter half with equally on-point braggadocio, and DJ Family Tyz ties it all together with some authentic cuts on the chorus (sampled from Jadakiss’ Time’s Up). Never Surrendering and much more will be found on Explizit’s Out My Mama’s Basement LP, set to hit record stores and online retailers “soon.”

Since this record is off Explizit One's forthcoming project, lets dissect the beat and cuts first...
The production rides a little lighter than some old school Mobb Deep-era Havoc, and accented by Family Tyz' Premo-like cuts, is a simply yet effective backdrop for Pooh and M-Dot to spit over. If it were one verse longer I'd give it one more star... |

M-Dot's people obviously move in numbers to support, it's good to see he's got such a loyal following. Boston stand up.
Speaking of which, this is exactly the kind of cut that would come on 88.9 when I was riding around Boston and I'd have to turn down the volume up. It's that real hip-hop. |

Ive been fiending for some real gritty hip hop like this for a while. Its about time. Pooh is a monster on this and a the beat is on the mobb deep tip like Z said. Dope track all around.

This song is banger. I keep listen to it over and over again. Both rappers kill it but props to M Dot who murdered it. This is the best song i heard in a while

I think the production on this is still a little under developed, the artists on here seem like there trying to keep up with the instrumental, it atually sounds like there going agaisnt the production. This doesnt seem like an official track to me, short of a verse, cut in length. Overall not a very well thought out track with good intentions.

I'd have like to seen a third verse as well but I think Big Pooh and M-Dot should share it, spittin' back and forth on it. Track was still fire.

Like everyone is saying, M-Dot hits hard with this underground grinding tune. Big Pooh does his thing.

Heard the joint with Masta Ace and it raised my curiousity. I listened to this and it's confirmed, this cat M-Dot is a problem. I'm liking what I'm hearing and he's doing joints with some respected vets & holding his own
