Poach Stevens - Bullets Through the Eyes & the Stars Fell Out
Artist: Poach Stevens
Producer: Poach Stevens
Album: ADHD EP
Label: God I'm Done with this Music
Featured back in July of 2011, Poach Stevens’ solo Booth debut earned praise for the emcee’s brutally honest account of the struggle to maintain a marriage against the ravages of jealousy and paranoia. If you thought Parachutes was real, you ain’t heard nothing yet. On his latest single, a joint by the attention-grabbing title Bullets Through the Eyes & the Stars Fell Out, the Richmond repper digs even deeper, using his alcohol abuse as a springboard for a cathartic exposé of his emotional scars. Over his own poignant instrumental, a cinematically understated piano-synth groove that explodes into a lush, string-drenched chorus, Poach lays bare the emotional trauma underlying his self-destructive behavior: “I got it from my daddy / The hookers and the drinkin’ and the schemin’ and the screamin’ and the beatdowns—f*ckin’ screw it.” Heavy stuff, to be sure but, if the reaction to Stevens’ previous feature is any indication, heads in the Booth will appreciate its realness. Poach’s ADHD EP as-yet lacks a drop date, but fans can click here to peep this record’s official video, directed by Swapmeet Ensemble partner-in-rhyme Silence DemALL.

Do yourself a favor and listen to this entire record - from start to finish. The only way to truly appreciate it, and feel its impact, is to gradually let it build, all the while listening to the words. I know, that is asking more than some people would like to give to a new artist/song. But give it a go, you'll thank us later.

This is one of those joints that you have to close your eyes and get into a mellow place inside yourself to really feel it. This was really weak at first, then it just developed into a great track. This is different and it deserves some props for it. A must-listen!

A poet str8 up. "the liquor tastes too good/ once I take a sip it hit's my lips like a kiss from an angel in a hood/ face covered by a shadow/ but I can see her smile splattered cross her face/ amused by my battle with her taste/ and it's lovely and it's tragic/ magic in the way she spins me round the room till it's noon like three days late." damn...
