Judging by the impressive number of five-star reviews that greeted his first Booth feature, A Blur, up-and-coming beatsmith PJ Katz has already accumulated a sizable cult following of clued-in hip-hop heads. Perhaps it’s appropriate, then, that the Albany native’s named his follow-up feature after an actual cult leader: namely Marshall Applewhite, the Heaven’s Gate leader who convinced his followers that consuming large quantities of barbituates would somehow help them hitch a ride on the Hale-Bopp comet. Thankfully, the record doesn’t involve any apocalyptic dogma or suicide pacts—just dope rhymes (courtesy of Giant Gorilla Dog Thing and Gorilla Tao) over a funky, sampled beat. Oh, and a live-action, rapping version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as seen in the official visuals. Fans can find this record and many more bangers on Katz’ 92 Renault Music tape, set to drop October 16, via Pig Food Records.

I always say that "different" can be really good or really bad, but never average. I am breaking my own rule. Parts of this make me love it, while other parts not as much. Ultimately, though, the guys in the video are having fun and that translates well to the viewer.

As a longtime fan of Albany, NY hip hop, this is one of the most fun, catchy posse cuts to ever come out of the 518. The video compliments this with no shortage of polish and vivid imagery. The horn blasts and campfire humming make for a powerful, motivating backing track from PJ Katz. Dood Computer doesn't ever grab my attention, but Gorilla Tao is on point, and Dez is better than ever, going from classic battle themes to flawless double-time.

Absolutely loved it. Overall, I thought the whole thing was well thought out. The beat is fun and tough at the same time and concept for the video matches the feel of the song. Rhymes sound great too. These guys keep progressing and at the same time stay true to themselves. Thats good to see because in this industry that doesn't always happen.
