Phreshy Duzit - Worth It
Artist: Phreshy Duzit
Producer: Nylez
Album: Untitled Mixtape (TBD)
Label: After Platinum
Nobody enters the game thinking that making it big as an emcee will be easy – then again, few have the foresight to realize just how difficult it is before they’re too far in to turn back. For Phreshy, the Brooklyn native formerly known as Ayo, all that matters is being able to look back on his relentless grind and say that it was all Worth It. This newly-leaked mixtape cut finds producer Nylez setting a pensive mood with piano and subdued synth ambiance as the man who brought us Sex and Candy gives us a glimpse into the life of a major-label signee whose success is still far from a sure thing: “Time’s tickin’, I’m tired of politickin’... tryin’ to protect my health, my enemy’s the shelf.” Judging by this insightful cut, Phreshy certainly has the skills to make it – here’s hoping all his hard work pays off. In the meantime, fans of this talented up-and-comer can expect more new tunes in the near future; the artist’s forthcoming mixtape has yet to receive a title or release date, but we’ll keep you supplied with the latest news and tunes.

This is definitely a new look, musically, for Phreshy. And I like it. My favorite part of this song is when he mentions that the label told him it took 3 years to break B.o.B. If patience is the name of the game - and clearly he seems to understand that by his lyrics - he might be okay in the long run.

This track just doesn't do much for me. The background voice is a nice addition.

If it took B.O.B 3 years...its looks like it may take Phreshy 6 years or he may just get dropped from his label...I saw that he was signed awhile ago, and got a few music videos...but I never seen dude on T.V or anything??? He sounds too cocky for no buzz...I'm just sayin I expected better.

Production is a winner, but Phreshy seems to have no life or emotion in his delivery. Judging from the pic at the top, maybe Atlantic took a chance on him because he has "the look" to appeal to a female teenage crowd or something. I no one thing though, record labels aren't doing alot of artist developement much anymore, so even though he's been holding on to a deal for a while now, with songs like this label execs might be asking themselves "Is he worth it?"

I respect the concept of the song, but I'd be lying if I said I thought the lyrics were impressing me. He's got a pretty basic rhyme style - if he keeps grinding and ups his lyrical game he could definitely hit, but for now....

OK, the last two Booth features are from very patient men...Phreshy's taking a brand new direction-he'll need to set himself apart if he truly does want to make it.
It took three years to break B.o.B., but that's because he was ahead of his time when he was signed. The jury's still out on Phreshy. PS: LOVE that sample. |

I was feeling the idea and lyrics, and I can see this kid doing some things. It's not great, but it's definitely good.

I actually enjoyed this song, great prod to suit the message and Phreshy didn't do amazingly well but he did enough for me to take it in. I think with alotta practice on his flow he can become something great because he has some nice lines.

The production is on point.
as far as the lyrics and delivery...boring. the chorus is decent and that's what allowed me to not stop it after 1 minute in. and i agree with Prince Charming, dude is tooooo cocky. |
