Since the 2010 dissolution of the veteran N.C. crew, Phonte‘s been getting into the post-Little Brother groove via a downright epic streak of guest 16s, as well as collaborative work with Dutch beatsmith Nicolay as The Foreign Exchange. Today, the training wheels come off with the release of Not Here Anymore, the artist’s first Booth feature as a headliner, and the lead single off his debut studio album. Of course, he still comes flanked by a few good friends; 9th Wonder mans the boards on this low-key banger, chopping a sample from Rose Royce’s Love Don’t Live Here Anymore as Phonte takes a wistful look back: “Amazon flame, watch 9th reKindle it, ‘cause iPad verses with the wisdom of my innocence lost / Two brothers two peas in a pod, two comeback seasons apart / Take it back to when I be in the park to rhyme till I couldn’t see in the dark.Slum Village vet eLZhi assists on the back, closing proceedings on an aggressive lyrical note: “Push whips like the ones from the clips in the Tron film / I blow your mental mass, where your mindstem?” Time to weigh in, readers: did Phonte kick his solo career off right with this smooth selection? If you’re leaning towards the affirmative, be sure to mark your calendars for the Sept. 27, release of Charity Starts at Home.

eLHZi is gonna do an album with Damu the Fudgemunk, I can't wait for that album.

I want an album with 9th Wonder, Phonte, & Big Pooh, yes I want another Little Brother album.

I heard a rumor not that long ago that they were going to do an album together.

Do you guys think it's possible?

I've listened five times now and have totally ignored what was being said...I never do that when Phonte is on the mic, not sure whether it's the bangin' beat or he's coming with some of the weakest lines of his career, I don't know. I am giving it another listen *plugs in beats by dre* for a true listening experience...Three minutes later, hmm o.k. I just had to listen harder, and get used to the different sounding beat provided by 9th, it's almost westcoastish and awesome as hell, really loving the direction 9th is taking with his beats lately. Phonte comes with clever lines like "You just running game, we da @*#$! tournament," which should be lines that little wayne should be using if he wants to be the greatest ever. Oh snap Elzhi for the final lap. These dudes really need your complete attention if you are to understand the dopeness that is being said. This is no background music, or backpack really, it's something totally knew by Phonte, 9th and Elzhi. Very nice surprise!
