Pharoahe Monch - Black Hand Side
Artist: Pharoahe Monch
Featuring: Styles P.
Producer: Mike Loe
Album: W.A.R. (We Are Renegades)
Label: W.A.R. Media
Taking its name from Queen Latifah’s 1994 single, Black Hand Side is Pharaohe Monch’s latest effort featuring Styles P and rapper/singer Phonte. Over producer Mike Loe’s soulful violin sample, the three emcees flow (and sing) about the cold realities of life. First up is Styles, who lays down a typically smooth verse depicting the hardships of the everyday grind: “Every different day a different black man die / Shorty mamma trippin’ off of crack mad high / Now he watchin’ TV lovin’ the bad guy.” Pharaohe flows second, pushing Black Hand Side from above-average to absolute must-listen status with this gem: “And they say I’m insane / ‘Cause I see the remains of the whips and the chains in the hood where it ain’t all good,” while Phonte’s chorus is the icing on the cake. Everybody, including producer Mike Loe, brought it on this one. And the result? Soul stirring, string sampling dopeness. For more of Pharaoh’s soulful stylings (holy alliteration) make sure you grab his upcoming project W.A.R. (We Are Renegades), dropping March 22.

Wow this is some Kanye-esque production here. But this is about Monch and his associates on thie track. Styles P went in and Monch is always good at his 16. All in all, I really like this track. Maan, that hook was smooth.

This is what hip hop has been missing for a while now. All three MCs come correct and the production is epic. Looking forward to WAR.

"Black Hand Side" is real good, but I'd be lying if I said that my expectations weren't higher when I saw the cover art and the featured guests. Monch is still better than most.

THIS IS STRAIGHT FIRE RIGHT HERE! This is what I have been waiting for. Some real street $hit from ppl who live the damn thing. Pharoahe and Styles P NEVER disappoint when they are on a track together. CLASSIC Material here. Lyrics are insane, beat is sick. It's just all around good music...

Phonte sounds great on the hook. It's one of those tracks that depicts the lower income black community. Shout out to Styles P with a great verse.
