Petey Pablo - Go
Artist: Petey Pablo
Producer: Timbaland
Album: Anticipated Recordings
Label: Carolina Music Group
Where has Petey Pablo been hiding? It’s been quite a while since I’ve heard the North Carolina native. In fact, we’re heard more about the man than from him, with my favorite Petey mention coming in the form of one of the best Little Brother lines ever, “Ni**as heard Petey one time/ And everybody think we wave our shirts like helicopters.” Well, it seems like Petey is attempting to comeback (and coming correct) as an indie artist with the release of his new single, Go; but what really makes this song is the name of the producer attached to the track - Timbaland. The hypnotic production by Timbo helps make the emcee’s braggadocio rhymes sound a little better than usual. He even uses a tinge of auto-tune that sounds fairly good on the track- claiming it’s the “re-birth of auto-tune.” More like the re-birth of Petey Pablo. This single is sure to be included on Petey’s upcoming album, Anticipated Recordings, which has yet to be given a release date. Let’s just hope there’s more banging production on the project where this came from.

When I heard that first line that was really autotuned I doubted I'd like it. T-Pain to me is the only one that sounds good autotuned. But overall this song was okay.

A production driven track although Pablo's still has some dope verses. The auto-tune is a unique touch to the track.

A bit too repetitive for my tastes. Not something I'd listen to again.
The little deranged-sounding flute/brass-instrument whatever annoys me. |

This is hot but im like everyone else the auto-tune is trash. But his rhymes was okay and Timbo killed this beat. But I think there is another rapper somewhere that would have killed this beat.

Jon may be right, the majority of the song's appeal may be due to Timbo's beat, but I can't front - I enjoyed the hell out of this one. The beat's sick, and Petey came with it on the lyrical end.
As for the auto-tune, it's used so sparingly I really don't have a problem with it. I'm interested to hear what else the man has to offer. |
