The Greater Good - Higher
Artist: The Greater Good
Featuring: NIQUE
Producer: DJ Finyl
Album: The Perfect Formula
Label: Flo Deep Music Group, LLC
The perfect formula for deliciousness? Chocolate and peanut butter. The perfect formula for babymaking? Champagne and D’Angelo’s Voodoo album. The perfect formula for The Perfect Formula? DJBooth regular and Las Vegas representer Marion Write and his production partner DJ Finyl. Having already induced the Booth to become infatuated with their last record I’m in Love, Write and Finyl have returned to get us Higher (figuratively speaking). While Marion grabs the mic for his usual metaphor-laden lyrical output and guest artist/Flo Deep labelmate Nique drops in with a high-caliber verse, Finyl crafts an uptempo, cuts-filled beat that loops in the signature vocal sample that gives the track its name. Some get high on marijuana, others high on life, but if you’re looking to get high on hip-hop, I’ve got some potent product for you. Higher will be the last leak before the duo’s collaborative EP, titled, of course, The Perfect Formula, hits our eardrums on August 16. Now if I could perfect the formula for turning Cheetos to dollar bills, I’d be all set.

Plain and simple - "Higher" is a dope hip hop cut. It sticks to the roots of the genre (simply production, scratches) and contains the necessary elements (quality lyricism, entertaining delivery) for repeat listens. Good work.

Nice vocals by both emcees in "The Perfect Formula". Like the horns but they do get a little repetitive by the end of the song.

What's the deal with everyone only rating mainstream artists today?
Anyway, I don't know what anyone could possibly complain about here. That beat expertly blends some old school hip-hop basics (like the scratches) but it definitely moves things into the future as well, and both Write and Nique handle the cut capably. The Las Vegas hip-hop movement continues to build. Get on it now or get left behind. |
