Jeff Chery - It's The Life
Artist: Jeff Chery
Producer: Freeze
Album: Going Against the Grain
Label: Team Rsinal Inc.
Carving out a enduring niche as a nationally-renowned rapper takes a very particular set of traits—inborn talent, ambition, and a superhuman work ethic, along with a good deal of luck, are practically prerequisites for success on that scale. On It’s The Life, the first of four world premieres off Pay$0z DJBooth.net-presented Going Against the Grain LP, the Brooklyn up-and-comer expresses what most Booth regulars already know: he’s one of the select few who truly have what it takes to make it to the top of the game. Over Black Starz beatsmith Freeze‘s scorching, synth-heavy instrumental, Pay delivers all the deadpan wordplay that fans have come to expect—some of the best punchlines are tough to pin down in text, i.e. “She said she Watchmen/watch men so I blue/blew like Jon/jawn.” Pay packs more hot lines into two verses than most would spit in three, but this cut’s two-minute-18-second running time is bound to leave the rapper’s fans a little peckish. If that’s the case, keep it locked to our front page for three more leaks in the weeks leading up to GAtG‘s release later this summer.

Proof that you can drop lyrical bombs in the form of a record ready to go to radio (if radio knew how to really program their stations) and not compromise your chances at mainstream success (see Common). I've always said that quality is better than quantity- that is on display here.

From Start to finish.Pay$oz always come through. Just wish the song was a little bit longer tho.Other then that he brought delivery a clean flow through out the beat and rode the beat very well.

I'm diggin this. His flow was tight and he's got the metaphors/wordplay goin on. Production was solid so I'm gonna give this banger status. Does end a bit abruptly.

"I'm feeling successful, bars on fire, every time I spit I get strep throat". Damn, this dude from his word play to flow to creativity, etc. That album is a definite purchase.

Pay$0z has impressed me with his previous joints on booth, and this track keeps those expectations high ... Mr.Freeze does his darn thing on the production tip (just as he did on my fav Pay$0z's track so far "Drivin") but the real star is Pay$oz who rips his verses to pieces. The sudden end of track is jarring but I'm just nitpickin, Oh well, BANGER!!!

Sorry I've been out so much...This week sure has been weird...I'll be back full on next week, complete with all my loud-mouth comments :)
This track is...um...great?? That's what I'm sayin' to myself...I mean, the verses are hot, the production is aight, and the hook is...is...Yeah, it's just ok. The ending, though...LORD HAVE MERCY!!! Sorry. It just ends too suddenly. All in all, this is just an ok track, but I believe in my man Pay$0z (wow that's hard to spell), so I'll bump it up to 3 stars. |

Pay$oz def has the hot verses coming out...but I gotta agree with bowwserr it ends kinda abruptly and at times the production over powers the lyrics...but all in all it's a decent track.
