For a short period in my childhood, I was absolutely positive that chemistry was my life’s calling—after all, what could be more fun than taking two volatile, potentially explosive substances and dumping them in a beaker together just to see what the heck happens? The realization that chemistry experiments were mostly a matter of meticulous, mind-numbingly repetitive titrations was quite the letdown, but surprising musical collaborations like this one always put me in that same spirit of youthful, maniacal curiosity. What do you get when you mix one part Pay$0z with one part K. Sparks? Something unique, to say the least; promo single Turn My Lights On finds the always-unpredictable Brooklyn up-and-comer and the lyrical mastermind behind the Manic Mondays series flowing over a reversed breakbeat by P Haze & Shinoshis, and though the headliner’s rhymes are as eccentrically sharp as ever, Sparks’ verse on the back end is the biggest surprise; his flow matches the flipped percussion perfectly. In any case, this decidedly unconventional yet polished cut should get listeners even more excited for Pay’s Booth-cosponsored Against the Grain LP, set to hit our front page this summer.

I run the risk of sounding like a nutcase by admitting this, but I flipped this one around so that the beat was normal and the verses were backwards, and have been listening to that as a palate-cleanser between track reviews.
Sparks' verse sounds really unsettling backwards, but Pay$0z' is surprisingly dope. |

I don't mean to bring negativity to this thread, but I just couldn't get into this. I think it was the production that threw me off. The rapping decent but I got too distracted by the production. I'll probably get some hate for this, but I mean I like both of these artists, but this just doesn't cut it for me.

this song bangs. from the beat to the verses.
the HOOK brings it down (when he says turn my lights on) i EVEN LIKED K SPARKS on here! (SHOCKER) but this is 4.5 stars. i cant rate up because neither one has been consistant enough for me to allow them in the "classic" category |

After second listen...
I listened closer to the verses and both artists actually came pretty hard. Still not feelin the production too much, though (what is with the pig-oinking-like noises?). The hook is a bit repetitive. I could bump it to rotation status but I wouldn't call it a classic. |

Considering that there isn't much goin on, the production is sick! The hook doesn't really do it justice, tho, and Pay$0z was cool I know he could have spit better on the verses. K Sparks just knows the art of flow, cuz he can ride any beat. I was surprised by this collabo too, but pleasantly.

This was sorta cool, but I was narcolepsy on the production. It seemed kind've boring. The whole vibe of Pay$0z (how would I even pronounce that?)
I woke up a little bit when K. Sparks came on. He had a more diverse flow. But overall, I can't really rock with that. |

Pay$oz definitelytore this up, Beat was not exciting, but I think Pay$oz choice of flow was unique, K sparks was cool but sounds like he was rapping just to rap.

Not the biggest fan of dis beat right here but both MCs drop some hard verses & flows dat support the beat & make dis track listenable to an extent ...
The prod needs a little work to make the song better than it is & take it to the Richard's blurbs level (which are BANGER status all the time)... Rotation for now ... |

I actually really loved this production, its a little crazy but given the right artists, it would bang. I cant imagine a more explosive combination than Pay$0z & K. Sparks, they already blowing up alone, together....fire! Unfortunately, it didnt blow me away and the ending is like my headphones are dying or something....

~WOW~, I would go on a rant...but I'm starting to see you don't listen, plus I'm out of breath with my last two...All I'd say is, don't call it "dumb" when it's smarter than a lot of your favorite hits.
Now to the song...Production is off the wall! Good to see that K. Sparks is becoming the go-to-guy for Booth favorites! Not as "smart" as I'm used to hearing, but enjoyable nonetheless. A banger it is! |
