Jeff Chery - Taken
Artist: Jeff Chery
Producer: Freeze
Album: Going Against the Grain
Label: Team Rsinal Inc.
There’s nothing worse than spending time and energy chatting up a member of the opposite sex only to find that she (or he) has already got a steady boyfriend (or girlfriend—you get the picture). How does one avoid this demoralizing scenario? Well, you could ever-so-casually drop the question into conversation (“Hey, how does your boyfriend feel about Tibet’s sovereignty?”), you could talk to her best friend, you could steal her cell phone and search for texts with hearts and ‘xo’s in them… or, you know, you could take a page from Pay$0z’ book and just go the direct route: “Are you Taken?” The second of four official leaks off Pay’s forthcoming, Booth-cosponsored Going Against the Grain LP finds the Booth favorite teaming up with R&B hookman Jamil (to whom Pay credits the record’s concept and much of the songwriting) to tackle the issue head-on. Complete with a mellow, synth-driven instrumental by It’s the Life producer Freeze, this cut showcases Pay at his most pop-appealing, but the Brooklynite’s rhymes are as on-point as ever. If you like what you’re hearing, stay tuned for two more leaks in the weeks leading up to the long-awaited release of the emcee’s GAtG LP (set to drop “soon”!).

Catchiness has never been so lyrical. Another 4-bagger for the homie, Pay$0z.

This joint started out like it was about to be a dope joint.
Well wait...let me rephrase this...it is a dope joint, but I thought the drums were going to hit a lot harder based on the intro's set up. I think it lacked that and the joint didn't come off as epic as it could have been. The hook was pretty good and Pay$0z wasn't bad, though his lyrics and presence is very forgettable in my opinion. Jamil stood out in this song, but the heaviness of his voice and strained parts annoyed me a lot. I dug the acapella ending Cicra early 90s R&B. The entire feel of this actually resided in the 90s to tell you the truth. I think it would have done very well in like 96. |

DAM this could of been a BANGIN joint but they ruined it on the drums!!
The intro had me thinking i was about to be blown away with a crazy instrumental and then the beat kicks in and i was VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!! Paysoz does good too but the beat just doesn't live up to it's capability!!!! |

Pay$oz didnt impress me as much as his previous songs but he is still solid. Jamil is perfect for this beat to give it a soulful vibe. Nice lyrics..original song..pretty solid

Freeze didnt impress me as much as with his previous productions but it still remains quality production, much more convincing than when contemplated through your headphones ...
Pay$0z, although short, brings his usual goodness and Jamil sounds mad crispy on the vocals... BANGER!!! |

Okay, after a few more listens that production is AMAZING!!! simple and plain.
The drums are perhaps what make this music stand out the most... has a nice 'BHANGRA' groove to it. |

On the real this is some hot stuff. Now, I am not trying to be bias or anything as such. Pay$0z is my dude, but... let's credit the man when he deserves to be credited for his hard work.

I was Taken aback. I'm a little disappointed. With the high rating I was expecting something to blow me away. The singing sounds so bad. I couldn't even make it through the entire song. Why is this song rated so high????
