Where has Paul Wall been? Four years ago he was rightfully called The People’s Champ, but then sales of his 2007 album Get Money, Stay True were mediocre and he more or less disappeared. Whatever he’s been up to for the past two years don’t really matter anymore because Paul’s back in the Booth with a new single, I’m On Patron, a slowly bumping track that harkens back to his old chopped-n-screwed days with a synth heavy, dripping beat from Beanz N Kornbread. For his part Wall proves he still deserves to the nickname I bestowed on him, the King of the Simile, dropping lines like “I’m on like a light switch, my wrist froze up like a computer glitch.” Yep, he hasn’t missed a beat. I’m not sure if I’m On Patron has smash hit potential, but regardless, it’s good to hear Wall back at work. The track will be off his upcoming album Heart of a Champion, due out in the middle of next year.

If you are a Paul Wall fan you couldn't ask for any more. As Nathan eluded to in his write-up, Paul is the King of the Simile. I prefer Sultan, but lets not mince words. Rotation in the clubs.

Lol he's already used that computer metaphor in another song (I don't remember the song but it was "my wrist froze up like computer screens"). Paul's gettin kinda generic to me. Some cool metaphors but ultimately I probably won't play this again. I'll give it rotation though, because I'm sure they are bumpin this down in Texas.

"Patron" may be way too played out for me, but i'd be lyin if i said this wasnt hard. Paul Wall mixed w/this beat and you got one tenacious banga.

@DJZ Damnit, you're right. Sultan of the Simile does work better. The point is, no one uses the phrase "like a" more than Paul.
Anyway, while I wasn't blown away by this, it was a great reminder of how much fun his music can be, and we get some inside info on the drinking habits of everyone Wall knows (apparently Slim Thug likes grey goose and OJ). Hopefully we'll be hearing more from the man. Don't call it a comeback, he's been here...

Paul Wall has been off and on to me, I mean some of his songs I like more other singles. For example I HATED "Sittin Sideways" but I was bumpin' "Girl" before it became a single. This is on the better half of his singles, this song goes hard, I mean, the beat is hot and the lyrics are catchy. He got a certified BANGA!

Had to chime in on that H-Town boi representing... glad to see Paul back on the scene. You know we gone rotate this cuz it features our favorite drank. And no matter how much we drank, we gone still be able to move to the beat of this one.

A fun, bouncy track like we all expect from Paul Wall. Nothing more, nothing less.
And I agree with Nathan, I think next time Z interviews Slim Thug, he needs to ask if he really does enjoy the GPO combo that much... |

Hot beat. I never actually noticed how much similes he spams into his verses. It's a pretty chill nickname.
I can imagine his H-Town Homies like Slim Thug, Bun B, Z-Ro, or Chamillionaire spittin' on this too. |
