Pat Piff - Hard Candy
Artist: Pat Piff
Producer: Apple Juice Kid
Album: The Motor City Misfit EP
Label: Unsigned
If the name Pat Piff rings a bell you’re probably either thinking of his work with Big Sean (Smoke & Drive), his Booth debut People Talk, or you’re confusing the Detroit emcee with mixtape site Dat Piff, no relation. But whether this is your first time around with Pat or you’re a seasoned vet, he’s hoping you’ll want a piece of his new track Hard Candy. Producer Apple Juice Kid (great name by the way) holds true to Pat’s Motown roots and uses some ‘50s sounding doo-wop samples to give Candy its sonic sweetness, setting the stage for Pat’s instant recognizable, slightly off-kilter voice to deliver reference heavy verses that cleverly name drop nearly every sweet treat on the planet. So how about it Booth nation? Is this Hard Candy something you’ll be happily sucking on, or does it just suck? If you’re looking to smoke some more musical piff alongside Piff, check out his latest work, The Motor Town Misift EP, available now, and keep an eye out for a new mixtape every month from the man leading up to the release of his debut album in January.

If you don't find Pat's voice an attractive listen then there isn't much he will do musically or otherwise to steer your fandom in his direction (its one of those take it or leave it situations). However, if you don't find his vocals at all detracting (and I do not, personally), you will most likely find his work to be highly enjoyable.
"Hard Candy" is fun, embedded in Motown influences (great production), and shows growth (since last we heard from Pat). Keep it up. |

@DJ Z: You mean he sounds like this on all his tracks?!? (This is my first time I'm hearing of Pat)
Well onto the track, the production has a 1050's feel to it, I'm not sure thats a good thing here for my tastes. i don't understand why Pat couldn't use the voice he did for the hook, for his verses as well, that was a major downer. |

This dudes flow was SICK my god. He was slip and sliding all over the track that was impressive.

Pat's got one of those love em or hate em flows, and while I'm not yet sure which side of that fence I'm on yet, i have to give the man props for the wordplay. I've listened to this five or six times now and I'm still discovering a new reference every time.

Not your average track at all, but doesnt mean its a bad thing either! Never heard apple juice kid get down like this on a track before and its really refreshing coming from what ive heard in the past (mostly heavy drum lines). Pat Piff did the beat justice with delivery, have to give him that. The track was way out there and he came on it like that, cant hate on it. Though his delivery isnt my favorite, its different and I feel it will grow on me. 4 stars

This is my first sample of Pat Piff as well... I came away pretty impressed. The production is great at times, but the sample seems a little forced. Piff's bars do not.
