PRGz - Another Night
Artist: PRGz
Producer: Block Beattaz
Album: Hood Headlinaz Volume 2: Still Headlinin Mixtape
Label: E1 Music
Having apparently recovered from a serious bout of Keyshia Cole smoking, the somewhat deceptively named Paper Route Gangstaz are back on their grind, excuse me, route on their new mixtape leak Another Night. Notably, Another Night samples fake ‘90s metal song Power Ballad, which was in fact created by Shawn Coleman as a parody just a couple years ago. Fascinating sample source aside, Another Night finds producer Block Beattaz flipping the guitar-laced cut into a street banger with heavy percussion, setting a fitting backdrop for emcees Dawgy Baggz, Mata, Jhi-Ali, Gunt and, as if that wasn’t enough, guest artist Big P.O.P.E. to lay down rhymes about the blessings (five-star hotels) and curses (loneliness) of nights spent traveling in order to keep your fans happy with sold-out shows. No one said the life of a rap star was going to be easy. Expect to see PGZ’s name in lights on the marquee when their upcoming mixtape Hood Headlinaz Volume 2: Still Headlinin hits DJBooth’s stage…um…homepage on May 27.

Upon first listen I thought this record was going to be just another southern-fried street record with ignorant rhymes and no substance. Boy, did the PRGz surprise me. Between the banging production, the dope sample (there is always a first haha), and some (not all) of the lyrical content I am a fan.

During the first ten seconds of this record I had to look over my shoulder to see if a mosh pit was going to form.
A little too classic rock...cool, though. |

besides from the chorus i like it.. not my type of chorus to go with this kind of rap, would be better if the chorus was sang by PRG

Production took me off guard, but I did in fact enjoy the electric guitar. First verse set the stage for a truly epic track. The sample that was worked into the hook really lowered the replay value for me on this one. If they had taken out the sample and replaced it with something else, this track would be great.
Verses weren't bad and everything seemed to come together nicely, but I just really fcuking hate that hook. I'm sorry, these guys talent and it shows in their verses. |

Fan of the guitar, but not necessarily in hip-hop. It's just average in this song. Like the sample a lot but lyrics could have some adjustments.

SOunds very 2003. Its ok, but not sure how itll hold up in the new direction of hip hop. But the Sample hook is on point, the plus side of the track.

I find it hilarious that they sampled a fake song, though the fact that you can't tell it's fake shows you how good the parody was. Makes me want to go listen to November Rain.
Like a lot of people here, I have to say I was a little surprised by how well the PRGs managed to balance depth and entertainment. I enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I was going to. Lesson learned, I'll stop sleeping on PRG. |

I really like the mix of the nontraditional hip hop sound that includes rock flavor. The lyrics were creative and the song was put together well.

The guitar sample is definitely nice. Flow's are nice, but the production was the highlight of this.

Props to Block Beattaz for flipping that sample. That is like genius. Ok back to the song. I really dig this. That first verse goes.

I think this song is pretty cool. The beat is banging and I think that the rappers actually held their own. Not bad from the PRGz and I agree with Nathan, I will stop sleeping on these guys and pay attention.

The one thing that first jumps out is the sample used and PRG's southern drawl laced flow and introspective nature shine heavily here. Impressive!
