OverDoz - Wanna Know Your Name
Artist: OverDoz
Featuring: Casey Veggies
Producer: THC
Album: Live for, Die For
Label: Unsigned
Although the latest single from the South Central crew who brought us December actually hit the ‘net on December 28, we in the Booth made an executive decision to hold off till the New Year, for fear that our readers might overdose on… OVERDOZ. That’s right: we weren’t on vacation, we were just, uh, concerned for your safety. In any case, I think listeners will agree that Wanna Know Your Name is some powerfully intoxicating stuff. Backed by aptly-named beatsmith THC‘s aquatic synths and some downright bizarre percussion effects, rappers Creemie, Kent, Sleezy,Tube and guest emcee Casey Veggies game-spit their way through bars ranging from smooth and clever (“Started out ballin’, I’m Ron Artest”) to straight-up freaky (“I’m bout to make that coochie burp”). Topped off with an uncredited singer’s silky guest vocals, this joint should have fans of far-out grooves eagerly anticipating the release of the crew’s latest project, Live for, Die For. The project has yet to receive a solid release date, but OVERDOZ fans can keep it locked for the latest details.

Not that we ever stick to a particular sound or style when selecting records for feature at DJBooth.net, but "Wanna Know Your Name" is that "good" type of different. Trust me, you won't find anything similar no matter how hard you try.

I can really dig this in the rotation. I can hear huge potential in these guys with a unique and different sound, although this wasn't my favorite track. Wasn't a fan of the flow or the hook, but the beat was dope. I know they probably have better out there and are capable of a lot more, so I will stay huge on the lookout for these guys.

The production seems unfinished and undeveloped. I think bad engineering is at fault here.

Man, 149th and I are eye to eye, or ear to ear today. I'm digging the originality and creativity, but there's something that sounds unfinished here. I know part of the point is that light distortion, but it still could have used some polishing.
Both these guys are on the rise, I'm sure we'll hear much more from them soon. |

This is definitely that good type of different. I love the off kilter production (the chain saw/lawn mower motor effect reminds me of what I heard on M.I.A.'s newest album). The sung hook is sort of weird, but so is the rest of it. I liked all the verses, but I think they could have been polished a bit better for better sound quality.

Some smooth iish straight from the Left Coast. I'm not feeling this as much as "December" for some reason. Needs a little touch-ups and I might give it 4 star status. The production is real creative but the hook does not work well.

I love when ppl do that with their sounds. When the sound goes from one head phone to the other, like the sound is moving thru your head. And then the beat started and he went in. And i was hooked that very second. I loved every second of this very enjoyable listen from Overdoz. The production from THC is amazing. A banger for me.
