Whether you’re an artist, a nine-to-fiver, or a staff writer for DJBooth.net, making a living while setting aside time for friends, family, and (hopefully) relaxation is no simple task. On this remix of Active Balanced, the lead single off their forthcoming collaborative album, Booth newcomers Othello and DJ Vajra team up with three fellow underground talents for a laid-back meditation on the daily grind. Producer Terry Cole serves up a head-nodding instrumental featuring chilly organ chords, mid-tempo percussion, and bouncy electric-guitar riffs as Othello paints a vivid portrait of life as a “self-employed emcee.”  On the track’s second half, Los Angeles native Mayer Hawthorne (aka Haircut) and his group, Now On (composed of Hawthorne, Jackson Perry and IX Lives) step up to the mic to describe their own personal balancing acts. If you like what you’re hearing, you can find more Othello & Vajra’s The Required Taste LP, set to hit stores and online retailers this fall via Colemine Records.

This is why I own a pair of headphones. "Active Balanced" is every day music. Great head-nodding production, great lyrical contributions, and a real chemistry among the collaborators.

No disrespect to the features, but it would have been 5 stars if Othello did every verse. The track has a great vibe to it, and Othello's flows never dissapoint.

I agree with White Kix that I would have liked to hear more Othello. His first verse on the Lightheaded Anthem is insane!
