Orie - Dear Winter
Artist: Orie
Producer: Alex Goose
Album: YNotMyDream Presents "1"
Label: D.E.M.O.
If I were to sit down and write a letter to the coldest season of the year, it would be exactly one line long: “Good riddance.” Fortunately for all of us, Walk Away emcee Orie gets a little more creative than that on Dear Winter, a mixtape track that isn’t so much about chilly weather as it is about the difficulty of staying on your grind when the going gets tough. Alex Goose‘s nostalgia-drenched soul samples forecast sunny skies ahead as the rapper ponders whether to spend his last $40 on food, studio time or paying off his student loans. In spite of the hardships he describes here, Orie ends the cut on a positive note, expressing his faith that his efforts will soon be rewarded: “I can stomach this, and I can stand the rain, ‘cause it won’t be much longer that I feel the pain.” Like what you’re hearing? This reflective track and much more can be found on YNotMyDream Presents “1” , released 4/19 and out now online. Also, fans lucky enough to be in Chicago can catch the artist playing the Metro this Wednesday, April 28.

It seemed like the majority of feedback on Orie's original Booth feature (Walk Away) was focused around the production overshadowing his rhymes. On his second Booth feature I think they are a much more level playing field (so to speak). Orie's delivery (and theme) works perfectly with Goose's production and the end result is a winner.
For the sake of moving ahead in the seasons, lets wish winter (as a season) goodbye for good (or at least many many many months). |

Liking the sample on this, the beat is relaxing and mellow. I like songs like these that aren't about money or getting laid, but rather about life. Orie's flow isn't that bad either.

I like Orie's flow and thats a good thing seeing as how I disliked the production to an extent. While the instrumentals in the background are pretty nicely worked in, the sample of the singer in the background really takes a little away from the Banger rating. Orie's verses are pretty refreshing. This is in rotation for me.

Umm, Typical oldschool Hip Hop sound. The booth has most likely has over 300 of these tracks....just my opinion but I would like something fresh and original.
@DjKidd You got a place where we can check out you or your boys music? |

Feeling this record. I really do like the beat and that nice sample in the background. The sample definately doesn't make or break the record though. Orie's flow is definately what got me here.

@PrinceCharming actually i got a whole bunch of boys that deliver pretty well...here is two for right now, over the summer i'm helping the rest of them launch their career's here is two tho
Z.A.Y. - www.myspace.com/artistzay he is mostly pop but on his youtube he has a couple of freestyles that he went pretty hard on. Russell Howard - russell has so many songs it is ridiculous but he has only a few on his myspace but more than Z.A.Y., he has some pop songs and some hard songs their both pretty well rounded artist i figure they just need a chance in the spotlight...ill give you some more later because they are still establishing...but tell me what you think it is what it is both of these artist just strive to be better artist and that is why im working with them, so give me somefeedback...what you like, what you don't? ight |

Bars were definitely the highlight of the track here although they could use a tad bit more enthusiasm. Nice, 2.5

It's a hit or miss with Chi Town today. Dear Summer, Song Cry, one too many Jay-Z references without the talent to back it. B.o.B. does the struggling rapper story better. A slight step down from Walk Away, Dear Winter turns me cold. I'm sure many struggling rappers can relate to his story but even with a few good lines, Orie falls short of a good story.

I feel like he's slowly getting there. He's got the heart to rap and pick good production. I think people need to get used to him. As for the track, I too feel I've heard this before too many times on the booth. I feel Orie is picking safer, and therefore more predictable production, he's got to get out of that box if hes gonna get the full force of the DJ Booth community behind him.

Not really feeling this one...maybe its the simple production. There's really nothing that makes this track special or sets it apart. It's real slow and I think his flow is decent now I will say his lyrics are above average. I think a different production might have suited him a little better but letting it still allow him to tell his story.

I'm always a sucker for classic soul samples and honest lyrics. If you want to be "really real", you could do much worse than studying Orie's lyrics. I wish his delivery was a little more dynamic, but all in all this is one hell of a vibe out track. Props.

I like this song. I love the production, I would much rather listen to 300 songs like this one than 10 tracks of what is considered "rap" today. I think Orie's flow is getting better, he's definitely becoming more comfortable and settling into his style and delivery. As someone who listened to his mixtape, I've seen that fresh, original sound that some of you want to hear and I think it's worth giving a listen to. So for those of you who are curious I've include the link to download the mixtape, check it out, you won't be disappointed! And for final comments on the song, I'm extremely excited to see the further development of this artist, I think there's a lot of talent and potential here.

Sooo... whos's deleting my comments? I was in here before @Aussie_Accents.
Smooth soulful production and well-delivered struggle-driven rhymes are always my style. Nothing major but a good listen nonetheless. |

Really relaxing beat and flow on this. Probably something to chill to. I like the beat on this a lot, but I don't see this song going much of anywhere. Good effort though rotation for me.

If this guy wants to make it big, he's gotta bring something different to the table. He just sounds like any other rapper with some decent lyrics.

I like it, its good to see a young brother talk about things that the average Joe can relate to...although many have done it each story is unique in its own right

I agree with @JKL11293. For me the best part was the production, but Orie's flow and lyrics weren't that bad.

I can put it in rotation, but not in repeat.
His delivery didn't grab me and I can listen to a soulful sample only for a while, no matter how good it is. More dynamism or go for full addictive background music. |
