California group One Block Radius will never allow themselves to be pigeonholed into one particular musical category; they have been known to mix hip-hop and R&B with pop and classic rock. The trio, made up of Marty James, MDA, and Z-Man, recently signed a major deal and will release their new album under legendary label Mercury Records via Island Def Jam. Appealing to today’s mostly female-dominated mainstream audience, the group’s debut single, You Got Me, reassures women that their men will do whatever it takes to keep them. Should You Got Me reach ‘hit status’, James should get the lion’s share of the credit with his sung hook and radio-ready production. Look out for their currently-untitled debut album, which should attract all types of music lovers when it hits stores and online retailers September 2.
Note: The streaming of “You Got Me” has temporarily been suspended.
The DJBooth has long awaited for the opportunity to feature these cats! OBR just inked themselves a real nice deal and hopefully --sooner rather later-- the nation will know whats up! Listen all the way through and tell me this doesn't get you vibin'. I dare you...
Oh, I like Marty James' production. I remember hearing his production on a track called "Half A Dream" from one of my favorite artists, Mr. J Medeiros (from the Procussions)'s album "of gods and girls". This production is awesome. This is a fresh track. I know DJZ has mentioned that they can only feature what people send them. Well, the BOOTH received some dope joints tonight! This is awesome. The hook is great and the rapping is refreshing. Like I say usually, I don't expect the close-minded, toddler-level music listeners to dig this. But this is a classic. The mix is awesome as well! MAN! If they dropping an album, I might cop that! This should even do well on the radio if people don't be on that stupidness.
Wow ... I like the strings in the background. Who ever sings initially sounds similar to Wyclef, Damien Marley, or Will.I.am. The singing is mind blowing. And the spitting is on point. I'll be on the look out for OBR!!!
This is a medlodic beat. This chorus is very nice. OBE has a Bone thug vibe to um, not as far as fast flow, but just how they aproach the music, I can deffinatly see their influence in their music. The production is clean. This is soild.
Great record overflowing with soul. The chemistry of the group from singing to rhyming really adds a unique musical dimension that most groups don't have.
Wow this is THE song! I'm really feeling the beat, the music and the melody...finally a song I can sing out loud in the car lol! They can sing, this is a high-quality track for sure
I thought at first that the sample was from an old INXS song, which impressed me, but checked it and it's NOT a sample. even more impressed....looking forward to hearing more from OBR as well as Marty James
fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this song is the shit. great productions, great lyrics and great vocals. never heard of these guys before, can't wait to hear more from them. i agree with dj z these are goin to blow major
Partied many times with these dudes in AZ.. They were always fresh and innovative with their music. Z rocks the mic proper, mda rocks the tables and marty got the voice and brains to take this group to the top.. Its just crazy remembering these guys rollin in a lil ass van and blowin tress til the sun came up. They got much love in AZ thats fo sho.
This song is definitely going to be a radio hit and be very successful. Everytime I call it, it happens. This is major material here. If their album is guided by Marty James, then I have no doubt in my mind that One Block Radius will go on to sell millions of records. These guys are on their way to the top. No brainer here. And yes, now YOU GOT ME too!
I like the song.. Its good to see a group I am unfamiliar with comin through the surface wit some shit like this.. Beat is sick, lyrics and production are also great..
