In a North Hollywood studio a trio of Carlos Rossi-drinking musicians went from The Dump to opening up for Hieroglyphics, De La Soul, and Trick Daddy and more. Whether it was the flyness of their musicality or the addition of San Francisco underground emcee Z-Man, One Block Radius has got it going on. Following their major label debut single, You Got Me, the fellas of OBR push their uniquely organic style to the limit on Shoplifta. The production, courtesy of Houston native Happy Perez, hypnotically lulls the listener into lush rhythms with a tinge of Caribbean spice and hints of ska and old-school funk. The band is currently pushing their self-titled effort, which was released September 16 via Mercury/Island Def Jam.
Good song, catchy and original! I'm feeling the verses and the brige but, BDF44 I agree with you, the hook is kinda weak, almost annoying. They could have done it better! It's in rotation
I'm really feeling this song. I agree about the chorus...but it's still very catchy and a lot of times catchy chorus' make the song and make u remember it...
This is a perfect example of why hip-hop needs eclectic infusing from other genres to keep it new and not stale. OBR has the most underrated album of the year. I wish the labels didn't rush to release this one. Shouts out to Marty James- avid DJBooth reader.
I am really feeling OBR's first single "You Got Me" and this is no different. Their music is fresh and they may not be moving a massive amount of records, but their sound is very unique and that is great to hear. This song is catchy and worth a listen. I think I must go try find this album now...
My boys makin noize!! this album is ill as hell. Thanx marty for the hookup! Cant wait til they back in az. " she lookin' innocent, Im lookin' hella burnt!" love it.
hmmmm not garbage but will certainly NEVA EVA listen to thiz again.- but thatz jus cuz of the beat...voicez r aight...but eh dont care about this song @ all...OK i guess.
I loved their previous single. The production on this joint is real hot. I've never heard of "Happy Perez", but whoever it is, they got skillz! It's borderline catchy. It doesn't move me like "You Got Me", but it's solid. Definitely bangs and it's definitely creatively done. I'll throw this one in rotation.
The production is crazy, the mix of genres is all around the album and this one is no exception. Their sound is madly creative and there's always something for everyone. The different styles of both singing and raping enriches the final product and gets an universal acclaim. Pure banger!
