OnCue - Story of a Lifetime
Artist: OnCue
Producer: CJ Luzi
Album: Leftovers
Label: AtWork Management
I don’t know about you guys, but I often find that a sandwich pieced together from cold Thanksgiving leftovers is just as delicious as the holiday dinner itself. The same principle doesn’t usually hold true for musical Leftovers, but in the case of OnCue‘s forthcoming set, it’s looking like it might turn out that way. Like inaugural leak Your Own Supply, the newly-leaked Story of a Lifetime sees the Connecticut native pairing an unconventional sample with rhymes as emotional as they are braggadocious. Beatsmith CJ Luzi looks to emo group The Spill Canvas for inspiration (not sure which record – can any of you skinny-jeaned kids ID it?), serving up a crisp guitar accompaniment to Cuey’s reflections on the grind. While the rapper’s self-confidence is unfailing, he makes clear that he’s not about to forget those who have supported him in his journey: “If progress leads to some proceeds… I could pay back some of my homies, for lending me a couple bucks. Fans can look forward to plenty more Leftovers on the 29th, when the artist’s Booth-hosted collection of Cuey Sings the Blues outtakes hits our mixtape page.

Its incredible that OnCue has enough quality material, which didn't make his last project, for his upcoming "Leftovers" project. Usually, a leftover is something that you'll use (eat) if you have to, but its never your first choice. This doesn't sound, at all, like a cutting room floor record. Props to producer Luzi on the alt production.

Really starting to like OnCue more and more. He keeps delivering. These "leftovers" are turning into the main course.

OnCue continued to show how rock and hip-hop can be blended in a natural way, and producer CJ Luzi deserves a lot of credit for that as well. The fact that this a leftover speaks volumes of the man's abilities.
