If hip-hop ever stopped being hip, I never got the memo, but it’s hard not to celebrate along with Booth newcomer Oddisee as he announces that Hip Hop’s Cool Again. Who’s responsible for this resurgence of coolness? If you answered “President Barack Obama,” well, you’re close—in fact, it’s Oddisee himself, a fellow Washington D.C. resident. While the emcee may not really be carrying the whole game on his back, he certainly has the multitasking prowess to carry a whole record; in addition to serving up a heaping helping of agile, celebratory lyricism on the verses and taking ‘em to school on the hook, Oddisee amps up the the old-school flavor with his own piano-sampling beat. If you’re impressed by this head-bobbing cut, don’t pass up the opportunity to witness Oddisee’s Mental Liberation, which is set to go down May 5th.

The production is nice and has that old-school feel. Oddisee has some really good lyrics, his rhymes are solid and his voice is easy on the ears. This is pretty hot!

I love hearing these rappers that aren't mainstream. They tend to have the best quality songs. Oddisee sounds good on here. This track is tight and I like the old-school feel. Four stars.

This beat is sooo sick! It is really cool, but when the percusion comes in you just need to nod yo head. When the brass is added on the hook it makes the song sound like a certified anthem. I'm lovin the lyrics and flow from this dude, real laid back but wit confidence and hunger. The flow and words he speaks on the hook make you wanna sing along.
Because I can find nothing wrong with this track and I'm feelin every aspect of the track, I can do nothin but call it CLASSIC... |

I don't really like his voice tone/flow... kinda not musically driven and more like a preacher. I'm not a fan of the sample also, it's not that catchy, gets old fast... gets a lot better in the hook!
I like the concept and his lyrics were on point with it. |

Finally some real hiphop. This is the music I love. Flow, voice, message, beat, all on point. I won't give it a 5, because its not a classic.

I'm a sucker for an old school joint, so this one starts off at a 3 just from the production. DC has been bringin some heat lately. I like Oddisee's flow and those horns really get the song goin
